Hi Lads.
I am opening up a Batcare as a hobby here in Denmark. Would love some photos showing cracked faces, toes, edges etc due to lack of knocking in.
By uploading you give me the right to save and use the pictures on my Facebook and maybe other future fora or websites. (unless you state otherwise ofc - I just really don't want a copyright infringement thing)

If you could pm me your email address I have a Kook stickered Ishan in for repair that the owner hasn't knocked in and used in a net got dented toe cracked edges etc

Thanks you two. Keep them coming. Danes have no idea that knocking is actually required, especially on "pre prepared" bats. Hence the need for photos

I did quite a bit of knocking innon that too. Obviously not enough.

He says it's only one net session... must have been helluva long gruelling netsession to get the bat to that level of wear and damage.

Oiling and knocking saves cricket bats and make them last longer - no doubt over it!
Though the oiled bats take longer to open and their unoiled counterparts. It seems that bat companies claim ready to play after slapping a scuff sheet over the bats. underprepared wood has far lesser chance to last even a season.
I like repairing bats as well and almost all the bats that I receive are underoiled and under knocked!

Great Thread @SteffanLangholz.
Players have no idea anymore on how to look after a bat. I knock bats in for some and say take it easy, check for seam marks and go over any. I even give them a printed sheet with all the instructions. I then see them at preseason in their first net smashing the ball after ball over to cow corner. Perhaps posting photos of the players might be more effective lol.

Strictly speaking you could call this a bat that hasn't been knocked in properly, but I'm still in the process of preparing it.
This was a very soft bit of willow, so has taken it's fair share of mallet loving to get to this stage. It will still nees at least another couple of hours knocking in before I'll be happy to take this into a net.

What mallet you using on that @WalkingWicket37 ? I can't remember the last bat I had that made indentation like that

@d7bow I started off using a cheap light mallet that I like to round the edges with.
I lightly tapped the edges and the willow virtually folded under the mallet. As it was so soft I've only used the light mallet up to now, and haven't really given it a good wack yet!
I plan to get rid of the indentation shown using the light mallet, then move onto my LV mallet to finish up the process. I'm thinking of this time using the cheap mallet as a pre-knock before I properly knock it in.
This is definitely the softest bit of willow I've ever knocked in, so I'm going to take my time and make sure I get this one fully prepared. The process will take longer than usual, but it taps up well as it is, so I'm hoping my time and effort will be rewarded with a pinger!

Personally I find a decent old ball in a football sock works better than any mallet
