Title: Oiling bat and Applying Anti-scuff

As the weather has finally decided to be dry and free of wind,rain,snow etc... I can finally sand my bat down outside!!

There are a couple of things I want to get peoples opinions on...

Firstly.... Do you think it is OK to apply a fine coat of oil onto the cricket bat, letting it dry , then applying an anti-scuff sheet? Or would this damage the bat in any way, and make the anti-scuff not stick?

Also I have seen a video where the bat maker applies the anti-scuff sheet to the bat, and then only oils the back of the bat. Would this not effect the willow on the face having not had any oil on it....

Which do you guys think is better?

And another thing.... When applying my anti-scuff what do you think is the best way to apply it to the 'toe' of the bat and could somebody pot a pic of the anti-scuff at the toe of their bat so I can get a rough idea.

I PROMISE THIS WILL BE MY LAST TIME OF GETTING PEOPLES THOUGHTS!! I JUST NEED TO KNOW I'LL BE DOING THE CORRECT THING.... :)

Post by: Aswani Cricket on January 23, 2010, 01:40:53 PM: If you're sanding the bat down, then yes, apply a thin coat of oil, wait till it's completely soaked through (a couple of days), wipe it down with an old cotton t-shirt, then apply the anti-scuff. Don't buy cheap anti-scuff as it may not stick.
I wouldn't apply anti-scuff to the toe, it will just come off. Apply some oil.

I dont think not oiling the front is a problem unless you DONT fit a anti scuff sheet. Oiling the back will be sufficient to keep the blade from drying out.

Finally leave a few millimeter gap at the bottom so that the anti scuff she doesn't peel up when tapping the bat on the wicket/mat/boot.

You can oil the face before applying the facing, but it doesnt matter if you dont.

How long after oiling your bat did you stick the anti scuff on? Which anti scuff as well?

Yes must be that, because the moisture in the oil hasnt dried in the bat.
