I am intrigued to know if any forum members practice range hitting during the season, outdoors from the middle of the square?
-
I've done it a few at my old club on the square- all sides surrounded by other fields. So was safe to do it, new club houses and roads mean its not a good idea.
But machine with a battery or someone giving throws its great fun!
-
I am sure it could be done looking to hit in certain direction thus avoiding club houses etc
yes can imagine it been fun
would love to get some of our guys doing it this summer.

Some of the guys at our club do it sometimes as we play Last Man Stands mid-week.
They get the bowling machine out on our Astro pitch on the square, then put the batting cage around but set it back quite a bit - so it basically covers mis-hits etc...
Set the bowling machine up for a nice speed and hitting length and away you go :D :D

Our club coach did one session, but decided not to do it again because he lost half the supply of balls into the woods and school next to our ground

ha! yes this is a downside I guess. but certainly at our club, a few of us would benefit from it. as we lack the big hitters.

We did it once, not many actually went rover the boundary....... or even near it. And our skipper who refused to wear pads, inside edged one into his knee and spent the next half an hour in quite a pickle.
Not done one since.

haha classic!

I think it's worthwhile as at our ground the boundaries square are pretty long and when i joined had no idea if i could clear them if a man was out in the deep, didn't want to find out in a game.
-
Do it the other way round, hit the balls from the boundary to the square.
Helps if you can cut and roll a wicket near the boundary

Practicing it in a net is another option? (Ideally a roll on cage so you can hit on grass pitches) 99 times out of 100 you know how well you've hit it. Saves on the collection of cricket balls too! Alternatively work in groups and take turns batting, feeding, and fielding (deep mid wicket, long on & long off usually, however a deep cover could be an option depending on how you are looking to practice)
