Title: Lions In Sri Lanka
Post by: FattusCattus on February 17, 2017, 01:14:30 PM
I always like these Lions tours, it's fascinating to see who's up and coming and who's in form. Is anyone else checking them out?

Westley and Livingstone bailing the batting out, and then my cricketing man-crush, TRJ biffing away in the tail for a rampant 83 and picking up a couple of wickets in 3 overs.

Could it be that TRJ is a dark horse coming up on the rails of the England side? Dare I say it - is he the 'new' Chris Woakes? :)

I enjoy keeping an eye on these games too.

Westley has scored runs in nearly every innings so far I think this winter. Wouldn't be surprised if he's called up this summer at all.

To-Ro-Jo is definitely close to a full cap, he was called up last year for the test squads so isn't far away from a game and nearly every time he's picked he takes wickets. He's not as accomplished with the bat as Chris Woakes though.

Interesting to note that Rayner was picked over Leach because he's struggling with his updated action after throw-gate http://www.espncricinfo.com/srilanka/content/story/1082973.html (http://www.espncricinfo.com/srilanka/content/story/1082973.html)

I am the same - enjoy keeping an eye on the Lions.

No runs for either Hameed or Jennings opening together is disappointing. Also interesting Foakes picked ahead of Clarke to keep.

Live scorecard here - if people want it

I was just about to post that story about leach  :D :D

I did read only minor adjustments to Leach's action and from the quotes I read he said it was all sorted out easily, obviously something is not right

Lion games are really important, Cook we hope will score runs for a while yet-(we need him too)

Westley is a name that comes up this guy does look a good player, he scores runs in Div 2....does it matter....maybe......

anyone who puts an England shirt on I want to do well but I think Jennings will not work out in the long run, Hameed will I reckon

just a gut feeling nothing more.

The article seems to infer that Leach had sorted out his changed action in the nets, but that he 'froze' a little when trying to bowl in a competitive game for England.

If that is the case (and I sincerely hope it isn't0 then perhaps Chris Rogers was onto something?

It would seem the TRJ and ORay are going to be shoe-ins for England then! :)

Just reading the report of the first day...

"Keaton Jennings, captaining the tourists, then fell to Sri Lanka Test offspinner Dilruwan Perera for 23 before lunch, bowled attempting to reverse-sweep."

Not so sure about the choice of shot there, especially after his attempt in the pre-test match video in the nets!

"Westley struck 14 fours and a six but fell short of a century when hooking Kasun Rajitha to a deep leg slip;"

A 'deep leg slip' seems very inventive!

Saw him play the reverse sweep beautifully countless amount of times!!

Isn't deep leg slip just backstop?

Bring these shots on I say. No more beige England!  Imagine an innovative Jennings and Root working around a conservative and traditional Cook and Hameed.

What do we know about the young Mr Livingstone? He seems to be making a bit of a name for himself in this series?

And don't forget, we have the next Chris woakes himself yet to bat, the mighty TobyRobyJoby!!!

Livingstone seems to have something about him and it's great to see him doing well!

Tom Westley got a score again too.

Westley seems to me to be a bit under rated. certainly don't get mentioned as much as others.

perhaps because he plays at Essex

Course he does, he's from Cumbria.

Livingstone was the lad who got 350 off not many in the Lancashire leagues a couple years ago? Certainly seems to be making the most of the shot at a Lions tour, I'd thought he was more of a white ball player previously tbh.

Never stopped Cook and Ravi Bop getting chances?

Though yes, not playing division one cricket has probably stood against him when compared to Hameed, Jennings etc...

Well, looks like the Lions are grimly hanging on to try and save this 'test' - they are a bit on the back foot here!

Poor old Jack Leach seems to have been completely messed up with this action re-building, something is clearly not right, he's gone for well over 5 an over and looks on paper to have been outbowled by Rayner. A difficult time for the young man, perhaps Rogers was on to something with his comments at the end of the season?

On a positive note, young Mr Livingstone is having a wonderful time, a century in each innings!!! We played sir!

Quite unusual for a fellow team-mate to basically warn the selectors last season about Leach as he was on the verge of a call up

Rodgers is a clever cricketer with huge experience, we may just be thanking him in a couple of seasons time Leach needs more time

They fort back hard by the looks of things - the Sri Lankans only needed 90 and they got 7 wickets.

Sounds like Livingstone played a blinder in a losing cause - also Flower talks about how good Foakes keeping was.
