Tymal Mills for 12 cr lol

Gotta be joking, one of the worst buys anyones gonna make.

Roy going unsold is a joke too.

Mills is now RCBs most expensive player after Kohli, ahead of De Villiers and Watson  :o.

Pleased to see Mills go for good money, deserves a good boost to his career now he can only play t20. Unsold players list is a bit good! Guptill, Roy, Tahir, Hales...

Ben Stokes is probably worth it provided he stays away from bowling to Brathwaite.

No secret Roy can't play spin

Great news for mills after so many injuries - hard work pays off. Don't rcb have starc?
Mills must've impressed kohli

1.44 million GBP approximately

Corey Anderson has been terrible lately and hasn't been able to bowl consistently for a long while now.

The prices are unbelievable.  Some players going or what seems to be "cheap". As usual some players are getting a great boost to their bank balances. Thought De Kock might fetxh a higher price. Young Rabada certainly fetching a good price.

i love following the auction, it is so interesting following which teams are bidding for who etc...

Mills went for what he did for a few simple reasons -

1. Starc pulled out yesterday and RCB needed an overseas quick - preferably LA
2. Boult was right before him in the auction and MI missed out, so they therefore come into the bidding for Mills.
3. He started his Base Price low which makes him look like a bargain - a bidding war then drives the price up.

Not to mention he has actually been playing well  :) :)

yep i really don't get that why do they set it so high when you can see by the way Mills auction went if you get 2 teams bidding your price can go up very quickly or worst case you actually get sold for a low price and you still get sold and have a brilliant experience etc...

Or you could pull out before the start of the tournament if the price is too low. Bizarre from Bairstow, the experience would have done him some good!

It's the totally despondent look; the owners all congratulating each other whilst the knowledgeable blokes looks on, beaten inside.

Don't get me wrong, I love him, but that is absolutely insane money...

i can see why though it has left Pune with hardly any cash.

However they have got a gun team - but they did have last year and got nowhere.

Overseas will be - Smith, Du Plessis, Stokes and Marsh plus Dhoni, Ashwin, Rahane.

Their bowling looks a bit weak though.

J Roy looks an unbelievable bargain. Mills for 1.4 mil?! We know he bowled Gayle with a yorker once on a Friday night at Hove....but 1.4 million?!

Corey Anderson has been terrible lately and hasn't been able to bowl consistently for a long while now.

Difficult for any player to hit the ground running after a bad injury.. Also not quite sure where you get the idea he is in poor form when he has hardly played in last 9 months.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.  :)

Prett sure all players enter the auction again in 2018, so Pune and Bangalore went big on Stokes and Mills as they know it's only for 1 season. Guptill bargain of a lifetime 50lahks! Sad that Brad Hogg missed out. Also Tahir surprisingly got no love

will be interesting to see if Roy gets a game considering he is at GL which already include Overseas players - Brendon McCullum, Aaron Finch, Dwayne Smith, Dwayne Bravo, James Faulkner and Andrew Tye.

RCB always do something stupid in the auctions! Buying Tymal Mills for that price is crazy...having said that, all the players go back into the pool next yr so it probably wont hurt RCB as much. Strange that they didnt go after Mitch Johnson...given the form he is in, he would have been an ideal replacement for Starc.
Title: Re: IPL 2017 Auction

Rcb are a odd team - no way are they within the squad budgets. People like Gayle are paid on the side through other means.

The biggest surprise for me was Mohammed Shehzad not picked by any of the teams..he can be a very destructive batsman and a game changer. Also, Imran Tahir not inviting any bids! how did that happen?
Title: Re: IPL 2017 Auction
Post by: six and out on February 20, 2017, 10:45:13 AM
there were definitely a few surprises - but there always is -

Imran Tahir - unsold
Ishant Sharma - unsold
Klinger - unsold - with a base price of only 50 lakhs!
Dickwella - the SL is in great form and didn't attract anything

and thats just a few

it really was all about the seamers this year though.

can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned Woakes in this thread yet - went to KKR for 500K!

Yes definitely, can't believe there will be 8 England players in this years IPL (and Hales & Bairstow went unsold) - amazingly they are all at different teams as well -

Stokes - RPS
Jordan - SRH
Roy - GL
Woakes - KKR
Mills - RCB
Morgan - KIXP
Butler - MI
Billings - DD

Except for Jordan, I think all of them would be first choice in the starting XI...although Roy will have to fight it out with a few other openers in GL.

Yep agreed.

It is a shame Roy didn't go to one of the other sides because at GL he is likely up against Finch and Smith for one of the openers spots and the last OS place.

With McCullum definitely opening and Bravo nailed on to play and probably either Faulkner or Tye as the final OS.

For me he gets in ahead of Finch and Smith though.

To be honest all 3 were absolute steals at the prices they paid as well.

Don't see Morgan getting many games for Punjab. Maxwell and Miller are locked on to play every match. Stonis probably bagged himself the all rounder spot. I doubt they would go in with 4 overseasa whom are mainly batsmen.

As for Roy unless he's somehow learnt to play spin, he's no more than a bench player.

at the risk of being called an ECB LAPDOG (!) I think they have got this right. some of the players not picked before have a chance to earn serious money, some who have played before have to come back....incl the captain, yet all are contracted to the ECB in some way.

IIRC KP wanted to miss a test series against bangla and that was one of his issues. Now there is flexibility.....is that fair...tricky I think.

the ECB have shown some flexibility before to Morgan etc and now they are showing the same

tin hat on !!! :)

Mills can't play ODIs and Jordan probably won't get selected, particularly if he's getting picked for Hyderabad at the time. Only Morgan, Roy and Billings will have to come back. Morgan because he's captain, Billings because he's not established (and I'm sure he'll jump at the opportunity to have a couple more chances to do so before everyone is fit and available). Roy didn't nessecarily need to be called back.
