Title: Looking for advice on bat purchase
Post by: ruzbeh on March 08, 2017, 09:51:16 AM
Hello all,

I am looking for a new bat for the upcoming season. I prefer a lightweight (2lb7oz or 2lb8oz) bat. I have a very limited budget. Can you guys please advice on the following bats:

Bulldog basher http://bulldogcricket.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=42 (http://bulldogcricket.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&path=20&product_id=42)

CJI Illusion IV (machine knocked + oiled) http://www.cjicricket.com/vmchk/Cricket-Bats/CJI-Cricket-Bats/CJI-Ultimate-ILLUSION-Cricket-Bats/CJI-Ultimate-ILLUSION-IV-Cricket-Bat.html (http://www.cjicricket.com/vmchk/Cricket-Bats/CJI-Cricket-Bats/CJI-Ultimate-ILLUSION-Cricket-Bats/CJI-Ultimate-ILLUSION-IV-Cricket-Bat.html)

MB Malik Bubber Sher (Made from Finest Grade 1 English Willow?) http://uzisports.com/end_of_season_sale/eos-senior-bats/eos-senior-bats-mb?product_id=439 (http://uzisports.com/end_of_season_sale/eos-senior-bats/eos-senior-bats-mb?product_id=439)

or any other suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Looking for a knocked and ready to play bat.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I see you are already looking at Uzi Sports for a possible purchase. You probably already realise that Uzi Sports is a retailer on this forum.
Asad (Uzi Sports) has a wealth of knowledge on all bats. I have visited his shop many times and I have to tell you that there are some incredible bats there...and have spent more than I would have liked but the bats are often that good!!
So as you have already mentioned him as an option, I would start by speaking to Asad and go from there? He is a pleasure to deal with.

Vitas is also one to be talking to. From what I have seen and by all reports he has some nice bats and access to some great custom hunts bats

P.S Ayrtek has some cracking looking willow too

The Kookaburra bats that Asad has are beauties

Jake at Vitas will also get you a great bat - perhaps something from the 2017 GM range?

Butterfly bats were all the rage on here. But so was Sam Robson, so who knows?

Thank you for the prompt replies! I would like to visit a shop, however they are not local to me. I am based in Notts. B3 is local, but bats are bit expensive for me. I will try to get in touch with the retailers in this forum. Thanks.

I am slightly tempted towards the MB malik sher, since it says Grade 1 willow! However, need to check the weight.

It might be worth a trip to B3 as you could pick stuff up and wave it about - they may also be willing to do a deal on something pre-made or a butterfly cleft.

You can't underestimate the advantage of actually trying out a few bats rather than mail order. Also, I don't have any particular loyalty to B3, but I hear they are pretty approachable so would be well worth talking to about your budget and requirements. It would seem a shame not to if they were on your doorstep.

ps @ruzbeh  I would ignore the Malik, I can tell straight away it wouldn't suit you, and would be far better off in the hands of a uniquely stylish batsman :)

Do GM have a factory shop?

They don't. There are a couple of retailers in the area that stock GM though, and Peterborough isn't a million miles away.... ;)

Hi mate I'm also based in Notts (workswise anyway) - B3 is well worth a look and can make anything up shapewise or budget. In addition to vitas in Peterborough there are retailers at J28 of the m1, Sheffield and Loughborough that aren't too far plus of course TCB in South Yorkshire stocking a number of brands

Just curious...with the retailers selling a wide range of bats with prices varying between <£100 to £400+, given that they hand pick all these bats, do retailers claim top performance even from bats in the lower price range? If so, then why would someone want to pay a lot for a great bat?

Can't speak for others.

WE try to pick what we feel to be the best bats at every single price point, that doesn't mean a £100 bat is better than a £400 bat. Occasionally there are some superb bats at low prices but generally what we are saying is a bat that we have selected has been picked because WE feel it is better than the other bats at the the same grade that were available.

To be honest B3 is worth a visit even just for a look around! Like a kid in a sweet shop! They're very approachable chaps though and will go out of their way to help you out as best they can.

I will try to to give B3 a visit in the weekend to see if I can get a decent bat within the budget! Thanks.

Like I say even if you decide you want a bat from elsewhere, it's a great place to visit just to have a look at all the pro shapes and ex pro bats they have there :)

That being said if you go there you'll leave with a bat, you won't be able to resist :D
