Title: My New SS Gladiator
Post by: Australian fast bowler on March 09, 2017, 01:05:02 PM
As much as a keep telling myself i dont need new bats, they keep miraculously ending up wrapped in Bubble wrap and cardboard boxes on my Front Stairs, amazing right!

So i spoke to a friend of mine at my club who had a contact in India and could get some crazy cheap bats, i was slightly skeptical at this point.
After discussing with him the weights and bat i wanted we came up with the Gladiator, and then inside a week the box arrives from DHL.
This Gladiator doesn't pull any punches
Weight: 2lb 9.5oz
Edge: 43mm
Spine: 68mm
Toe: 31mm

Yes we can skip over that under the new laws this bat is illegal and just bask in its beauty
Least no Sharpie marks in this one

Cheers

How much did you pay for that lovely bat?

Could you check the width on it, that's a big bat for the weight, be interested to know if it's normal width etc

Cheers

How is the handle thickness and is it oval/round? I saw recent gladiators come with thin handles and poor pickup (mostly due to the thin handles) while gladiators until 2 years ago had amazing pickup with thick handles and felt so good in hands

Ping is out of this world, it pings as good as any Player release bat
Pick up is good, its not a super light pick up, it is beautifully balanced

Width is 107.7mm
Price wise was a very good buy, not really wanting to say the outlay but it was a lot cheaper than what they retail for

It isnt a thick handle and it isnt too thing, also is round. i will be adding another grip as i prefer a thicker handle, its a nice feeling bat

The bat is beautifully pressed, cant wait to see how it goes after being prepared as it already goes like a train!

I have had quite a few SS and Ton bats. I always thought they were all well balanced and ping like rockets but often bottom heavy for my liking.

Definitely not bottom heavy on this one, the balance is beautiful for  a massive bit of willow

Lovely Bat! Huge volume and high grain count for the weight. Certainly a bat that would entertain a pro's interest.

Considering ive owned and seen a number of pro bats over the last few years, this certainly puts some of them to shame

That's a beauty!
Must have been pricey, over £300?

Gotta love a good gladiator.

Looks great and they have evolved somewhat over the past couple of years.

Spine height on my 2013 Gladiator is tiny compared to this beast!

Was no where near that figure when converted to AUS, far less
Not going to say exactly but was a lot less that that

amazing looking bat mate. I find gladiator to be the best performing model (in my limited experience) out of the SS range. I have had two, and they always seem to be top drawer compare to the rest (even reserve editions/maximus) - could just be luck of the draw. In the end, they are all probably the same shape with different stickers and its all in our head, but hey, this what the forum is all about.

Agreed I feel that the Gladiator and Reserve Editions outperform all other SS models by quite a margin... Particularly the Gladiator models which seem to have usually more grains than the Reserve so it breaks in faster.
