Really? Must be my eyes - it looks like a cartoon of them!
-
Half price offer on the DF Atom bat though!! That looks a decent offer, I just can't seem to scroll down on their website to choose a size (could just be dumb-ass me!)
-
Saw this the other day, better than the quite frankly hideous 2015/16 offerings, but still not my personal cup of tea (obviously still aiming for the nostalgic market which is always going to be risky).
Fearnley in general, for me, is just a real shame. They've got easily one of the most recognisable logos in cricket and the heritage to go with it, but whoever has been doing their design work for the past 5/10 years or so has just totally ruined their image imo. The new website is really nice, but the new softs/bats just aren't cohesive (a star wars themed bat with nostalgic softs?!) and that's not to mention the quite ridiculous pricing of the bats, with some already being offered on a 50% off sale after only being released like a few months ago. Why not just charge the right price in the first place - they're acting like the DFS of cricket for gods sake.
Having grown up using nothing but Fearnley (being a Worcester lad!) it really does sadden me. Apologies for the rant but it could be so easy to get the brand back to the forefront with a bit of TLC!!!

Their shop is stocking New Balance gear! Er, why?

Exactly what I'm talking about lol, it was half price on the Sabre last week...

They (or some people at the top) have to change their attitude, in my opinion.
During an offer a few months back I purchased a Magnum, and they refused to give me UK VAT exemption even though the bat was being sent to outside the EU! The reason given; the bat is already discounted so no UK VAT exemption! I ended up paying same amount as a UK customer.

To be fair to them that's a relatively common occurrence across many companies (not just cricket related either)
-
The VAT deduction doesn't effect them tough as they aren't losing out on it either way if they are on a regular scheme.

Probably just too much effort and as it was discounted couldn't be bothered with the additional paperwork.
-
Perhaps but would make no diff to their bottom line either way, you can get a website to auto calc it easily enough based on geographic location or at least has how I've set ours up.
-
One time Fearnley poster-boy Ian Botham knows nothing about bats. He thinks modern bats are big because they are not pressed. :o
You wouldn't be able to put him right, though. "How many Test wickets have you got?" and all that.

Yeah that's a very strange move I get some company's have other brands of shoes like paynter at salix etc but not the whole kit surely that can only harm their own range?
-
Farnley used to be such a good brand....vr 5* was an awesome bat...where did it all go wrong?!
-
I remember my old man having a monster of a Magnum was about 3lb and went like a rocket. Once all the edges where smashed he cut them off and myself and junior used it as a middling bat long before they where sold as a coaching aid
-
It makes me very sad to see this happen to DF. If they were still offering really good kit (and they might be i just don't want to risk it) i would be fully kitted out. I grew up with DF and they will always have a big place in my heart.
I know they have a big market in all the umpiring gear, we got a big flashy catalogue when i did my umpiring course. I wonder if this is enough to keep them ticking along?
-
I always love it on forums when an old thread just pops into life and no one bats an eye.
I just had a quick browse on the DF site... £440 for their top end offering. Bargain.
I had assumed they were another SD brand... but maybe not.
-
am with you guys, iconic brand now run on a shoe string it appears with a woeful website
am gonna pop along to the factory/shop at the end of the month and have a butchers at their `classic` range softs and duffel bag that features on their twitter now and again...in my heart, its really good and vfm,but..
we should all club together and buy them,i reckon
-
I popped in the other week. Softs seem very poor, but the bats which they make in the factory there are all absolute stunners! They press them flat, so no bow in the blade, but apart from that they seem to be fairly big for the weight as well.
Just the price is a bit steep for what is a failing brand, which seems to survive by its club whites and kit sales, and being the place that all the school kids go to get their cricket stuff! When I was at primary school, EVERYONE had a cheap fearnley bat, which could only be told apart by everyones initials/names being scribbled over them in permanent marker!

could be wrong but
Think it's more to do with where certain NB bats are made

Which (or who's) New Balance bats do you suspect they make mate?
-
I bought an Atom last season, well the back end of the season. It's a decent size bat and picks up well along with tapping up well.
If you're patient enough you'll find offers throughout the year offering decent money off their bats. Mines was less than 200 so over half price.
I am aware this bat technically doesn't exist without pictures!
