Title: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on January 27, 2010, 06:46:04 PM
Right hada play with some helmets and the maximum size possible with the new grill they turned out as below, these are obviously the maximum size you can achieve as people have asked for a bigger gap to be allowed between peak and grill....needless to say smaller settings are able to be applied to such as 45mm for a junior sized ball requirement and 55mm for an adult sized ball.

Pics as below

Ayrtek = 85mm

masuri = 73mm

Albion = 84mm

They grills will be arriving on 5th February if people are keen to upgrade to a titanium grill?

Surely a ball could slip through any of those huge gaps!

Swami...yes indeed it could but when we designed the 2009 grills we specifically designed them in guidance with BSI standards so that a 45mm and 55mm gap between peak and grill could be applied. This in hindsight was an error and a learning curve for us as it seems people aren't concerned with having a gap that meets BSI safety standards and would much rather have a gap that gives them a better view of the ball coming towards them.

Hence why we have revised the mounting plates for the 2010 season version as pictured above.

Couldnt help but notice the Ayrtek Scottish helmet, have you got a player wearing/endorsing your helmets?
Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on January 27, 2010, 08:38:20 PM
lol no that i have seen i did give two of the helmets to their team manager when i was at wormsley for the world cup T20 warm up games but havent seen them wearing them as yet!

We did some samples for each of the 12 world cup teams as we had the shells back from BSI testing which had a few cracks etc in them after testing so thought we would put them to use any spray up a few designs. the above was the scotland one that we did.

Grills look nice. Haveyou thought of ear pads?

Tom didn't bother as the pros don't like them, that's my understanding.......

Ok then but most pros i see wear them  ???

With Masuri's? I see a few with Albion's. I spose it's preference and the majority of pros don't really wear them as they block out sounds, like calling...

Leeroy...will be in Wisden good gear guide this month (??) or whenever it comes out. Got the ability to make them but need to make a decision if we want to put them through BSI testing etc to be able to sell them to the public.

Trying to gauge if there is enough demand to warrent proceeding with it TBH. or if to focus on the modern shell now that its started to get recognition. Will see what the review says and take it from there i guess.

Good to know mate not sure if we get to find out the review before it goes public did get put on the spot to come up with a name for the traditional helmet when they rang me the other day! lol

I know, I was just wondering who the hell would want a huge gap which you could easily fit a ball and a half through!

Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on January 30, 2010, 07:32:44 PM
Think i just told them to lable it as the ACIS Elite "traditional" with a recommended RRP of £99 still, but when submitting it i did point out its strictly a prototype which hasnt even had the air vents trimmed out as yet due to the fact there are only 2 in the world in exisistence lol so will see what they made of it on reivew i guess.
Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: harrystokoe on January 30, 2010, 07:41:53 PM
If it's anything like the modern helmet it should come out quite well!
Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on January 30, 2010, 07:47:33 PM
Who knows!! Made alot if improvements to the ACIS since they gad our 1st prototype to review. Should really have sent them a fully finished modern one as well but that ended up going to cricket365 who are part of sky for their review in order to get two independant views on them

Did the final version of the traditional shape vary much from the prototype pics you posted a few months back? I am really tempted to go Ayrtek, but normally opt for traditional style gear, thats all!

Post by: leeroy_acko on January 30, 2010, 08:11:27 PM
not to worry for now, I am fairly sure I will take one, just need to recover my finances post Oz holiday!
How long would it take to get one (a standard one) done up for me? Pretty certain once I get one done the rest of the club would follow!
Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on January 30, 2010, 08:13:21 PM
in the modern shape i presume you mean? when you say club colours do you mean a 2 colour design/club crest etc?
Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: Colesy on January 30, 2010, 08:14:14 PM
I think he means he wants a standard one but his club may follow him in purchasing one
Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: leeroy_acko on January 30, 2010, 08:23:41 PM
Yep, Colesy has it right, I mean the standard shape as used by KSang etc... in club colours with crest. How long would that take?

I reckon once done, a lot of others at the club would follow.
Title: Re: Ayrtek 2010 Grill and the settings
Post by: Ayrtek Cricket on January 30, 2010, 08:35:10 PM
Shouldnt take very long providing you can get hold of your club crest in a high res format that can be printed from. Once we had that prob a week to sort it out and deliver it

Took delviery of the 1st batch of 2010 Titanium grills today...as a forum offer to members they will be £36.75 posted as opposed to the £40 + P&P on our new website due for launch in march.

If anyone wants pics please let me know...they can have a gap of between 45mm-80mm between the peak and grill when put onto Ayrtek/Masuri/Albion helmets and weigh 150g.

I am loving the matt green, I think that would please me rather than being arkward and wanting a cloth covered one! Are the matt colours an option on a custom traditional style one?

I think the new side shape of the grill will result in more people buying them for masuris as they look the same

Also did you get my PM tom?

Afternoon chaps.....got eleven 2010 titanium grills which havent meet our quality control standards due to having uneven measurements on the mounting plates of over 3mm on each side.

In view of this I thought I would see if people on here would want to pick them up for £15 inc P&P to at least make use of them if there is any interest?? They are made of grade 5 titanium and weigh 150g and wouldnt be rejected on any other basis.

If you want further details of pics drop me a line if your interested.

Cheers

Tom

yeh will sort some out tomorrow mate as im at home at the moment and they are out in the office/stock room.

They are exactly as per earlier pics except the mounting plate on one side is for example 57mm from the bottom of the mounting plate to the bar on the grill and the other is 61mm. Easier to explain when i get a pic uploaded i guess. Its not something that will be massively noticable when on the helmet but they didnt meet our quality control levels.

Just sorting otu the last few bits now mate...3D helmets look really good as when you select the different stock colour from the drop down menu the 3D rotation changes colour to your selction so you can get an idea of what your buying!

Hopefully by this time next week as literally checking it now to iron out any functional issues with it....would post up the link but as its not 100% finished you'll have to wait a few more days ;)

£42 posted to forum members....seeing as the raw cost of titanium has gone up in price I would expect to see a price increase from the bigger brands fairly soon!
