Title: Ambidextrous cricketers??
Post by: smilley792 on March 23, 2017, 08:26:55 AM
So we have a lad at our club, only bats right handed in Saturday games. Bats left handed in nets and midweek matches.

Anyone else seen anyone like it??

And his normal right handed net

Just to point out I'm not claiming he's world class, he plays for us, but for an amateur, I think it's impressive.

Bat. Left handed can bat right but don't feel balanced
Write with left and right  hand
Throw left or write hand
football left foot as strong as right
Bowl right handed

I am incredibly right handed, if I tried to throw you a ball with my left it would look like a child was trying to throw it.

Kid at my last club could bowl right arm seam and left arm spin. He wasn't event a bowler really but an opening batsman.

Can remember in one game the opposition not even trying to score runs as they couldn't chase our target down. Captain brought him on and asked him to bowl left arm spin just on the hope that they might take a chance.

He got a wicket!

Most people are.
Growing up. I was naturally left handed and  it was frowned upon at school the teachers they insisted my right hand became more dominant

Bowl left arm spin ( used to be pace when young)
Bowl right arm seam in nets  when low on pacemen
Bat right handed
Throw right handed preferably, but also left handed
Bat left handed in baseball
Cant figure out whether im better at tennis right or left handed
Write right handed , but give me a couple hours practice and my left hand is decent
Kick left and right footed
Play darts left handed
Wear my watch on my right hand
Use cutlery left handed
Better with chopsticks right handed

...I'm an ambidextrous mess .

@tom line can bowl with both arms!

So does this mean i could (theoretically) teach myself to do things left handed to a competent level?
I'd love to be able to throw more than 10 yards with my left arm...

If you had gone to my all boys ex grammar school you would have had no choice but to become competent.

It's all about muscle memory. With enough practice there's no reason you couldn't do it. How true I don't know but in Skill Aquisition at Uni we were told a story about Brian Lara teaching himself to play Golf right handed to avoid negative traits effecting his cricket game and vice versa.

We had an older player at our club (in his 50's) who was a right handed batsman. Towards the end of his career he turned out for our 4XI and scored 70 not out batting left handed. It wasn't the greatest of standard but still league cricket and I was impressed  :o

Are you sure you know which is left and right?

 :D

Everything has to be right handed/sided for me. The left hand side of me is literally only good for keeping me stood up. And sometimes it's terrible at that.

I played with a guy who could bat left and right handed equally as well.

He'd ask me, left or right hand today mate?
Then he'd get out the corresponding gloves for what i said.

On the days he just wasn't feeling it, he'd go out with thumb protection on both hands and switch mid innings if he didn't feel 'right'.

Guy at our club bowled RH Seam left arm spin LH Seam and then right arm spin in consecutive overs.

Bats left handed but seen him switch on that too.

Needless to say the opposition were confused 😂😂😂😂

He looks far more balanced batting right handed.

I think most people can semi bat left handed can't they? (or Right if left handed). I can.. I just thought it was normal
