Title: ALDRED PRESTIGE
Post by: Umi on April 04, 2017, 04:13:50 PM
good day to all,

Can anyone give an input on ALDRED Prestige bat or any ALDRED bats in general they've used, how are they ? Etc...

I don't know about the Prestige specifically but in my experience Paul makes an excellent bat.
Some people complain that he only makes heavy (dead weight) bats, even if you specify a particular weight it is likely to exceed that. However, many of his bats are mid/high middle with duckbills, so they do pick up better than you may expect. Additionally, the handles tend to be thick. He is happy to make them thinner but you need to specify that. I really like my Aldred but some people have had negative experiences and it appears Paul does not always take criticism well.

I have a Aldred Butterfly made to my spec by Paul and it is a beautiful bat! I love the feel, pickup and sound of the bat! In my dealings with custom bat makers, Paul made my bat exactly to my requested spec! He was easy to talk to and communicate the requirements and in general very knowledgable about cricket bats and the sports itself!

Pauls a lovely bloke who makes stunning cricket bats
Mine was made in front of me and was easily on a par with my old laver and wood.

Paul is a wonderful craftsman. Finishing & performance of his bats are top level. Just don't buy his dead weight vs Pickup feel theory.

You have to tell him the exact finished weight & the thickness of the handle.

As the others have mentioned Paul makes a nice bat but you really do have to specify what dead weight you want and also make sure you state that the weight requested is fully dressed.

Are Aldred bats 'soft pressed' or do they take a while to open up? Really interested in the Prestige but need something that is match ready asap.

I spent a few hours whacking it with a mallet and used it in its first match within a week. Biffed off a quick 80 too so I was well pleased. It came well pressed, certainly not soft, mainly needed work on the edges and toe.

I have a players Velocity now Classic and lent it to a mate at the back end of last season, he keeps asking to buy it - says its the best middle he's ever used.

I had an Aldred, the finish was outstanding, a beautiful bat. However I found the middle to be to low on the bat for me, so I never really used it.  I ended up selling it, but I could say the same about the half dozen bats I have purchase over the winter.

I've only had the one Aldred bad. Sovereign Gold 2,10, clean with two grips. Pick-up weight was too light for the mate i bought it off.

Before my B3, best bat i'd had.
