Post by: shax12 on April 13, 2017, 04:15:01 PM
Hello guys. Looking for some new grips. Was after something lightweight and thin. Any recommendations?

Think i understand but lightweight? Really? The difference is negligible

Indian chevrons or diamond grips will be the thinnest
U.K. Chevrons are actually quite thick

Funnily enough, despite the thickness difference, I find that some Indian chevron are heavier, around 1.6 ounces and UK ones can vary between 1.3 and 1.5 ounces. Got a bunch of grips at home that I'll probably weigh up and put on the grip thread, but generally speaking, chevron and diamond are the lightest, spirals tend to be the heaviest at around 2.5oz.

I'd imagine it's to do with the materials used, the U.K. Ones always seemed a lot softer a more supple almost, where as the Indian Ines a little less flexible, perhaps more latex content in the UK ones?

Thanks for your replies guys.

My new bat has a very thin handle and handle vibrates too on impact higher up the blade so thinking to add a extra grip but don't want to add too much weight to it already. So want something lightweight.

Yup, sounds like that's the case. The UK ones also wear down more easily, but are slightly easier to put on. The difference in weight is almost negligible, in the end, if the handle isn't quite thick enough, I'll use the UK chevrons, and if it is, then a thinner Indian one will do. I find that handle feel affects pick up more than the weight of grip for each individual as we all prefer different handle thicknesses/shapes. :)

I've bought a load of Salix type hybrid grips, not sure if they were genuine or not. But they all weighed between 1.2 and 1.8 ounces. Quite a discrepancy really.

Yes usually the thicker the handle the better the pickup.

more latex the softer feel, more rubber in the mix less stretch and not as soft but more durable.

All grips are from getpaddedup unless otherwise stated:

Chevron: 34g, 45g, 50g
Octopus: 43g
Scale: 41g
Ripple: 52g
Ripple (SS): 51g
GM control style: 44g
GM dynamic style: 45g
GN (thicker) chevron: 42g, 42g, 42g, 45g, 46g, 47g, 49g

Much of a muchness I'd say weight wise so go for the thinnest which is the getpaddedup chevron or scale

If you for some reason believe 5-10g in a grip matters then buy a few getpaddedup chevrons and try to get a 34g one like I had ;)

Personally I'd use several layers of tape to build up the handle thickness as I don't like the spongy feel of two grips and it adds even less weight

Thanks for all this information.

Yes tried tape on handle but it still have that vibration. Will try a chevron grip from getpaddedup.

Lightest grip ive tried was an aero grip . I was so surprised it only weighed about 18gm or so . But it was a bit thick and i didn't get on with it ( although i found them grippy enough , unlike a lot of other people ) , went back to chevrons .
