Title: Visited UZI today
Post by: LEACHY48 on May 11, 2017, 09:25:11 PM
So today I went off on a trip along the M4 to see Asad st Uzi sports -what a great place!!!! Stacked with great quality kit and the service from asad was impeccable never too much trouble never seemed rushed always tried to answer my questions, went into great detail about any potential purchases and I even got to use his LV mallet ;). I went there with the intention of buying a couple of accessories and having a look at the stunning willow he has on offer - I set myself a budget however upon seeing his own range of kit I was blown away. I decided I was going to leave the shop with a bat lol. I perished through a handful of bats that Asad  picked out but they were all so good that he said he didn't want to ring out any more that would confuse me further. I picked up a lovely Salix that was priced as a performance grade but had 12 stunning grains and performed really nicely. Uzi also went into his special cupboard and picked out 4 or 5 of his own range for me to have a look at but one caught my eye as it was a non standard shape - it was a mixture between his mamba and diablo shapes - I picked it up and gave it a waft around and thought blimey this is light and feels lovely in the hands - it was 2.10 which is normally the upper limit in weight for me - but this felt so manageable - next I tested the response and it was crazy - potentially up there with the best bat I've ever owned and only the second bat I've ever owned that makes a certain sound off the mallet - rebound was exceptional on all the bats I tested but this one stood out particularly. I also loved the handle and the looks despite it not being the grainiest or the biggest. I decided to take the plunge and super happy I did. Asad boned the edges and oiled it for me, and  It was also blank st the time so because it was a mixture of profiles Asad stickers it up to my choosing. Overall I cannot fault the service and the product and I think despite the fairly long drive you most definitely have a long term customer in me! Pictures of the bat will follow tomorrow.

The bat and profile look fantastic. And I know it's impossible to tell how the pressing is from the picture.
But if you picked one of the best from Asad's shop then I know how good it will be!!  ;)

Asad has always provided great customer service as far as I'm aware and is a great bloke from the small time that I've met him so I'm sure he will treat me well

Let's hope so. Maybe it's just because we see these on the forum but I. Don't recall bats years ago going like this...maybe it's one of those things that did happen a lot and just wasn't seen on social media.

I've had two or three go like this, but with horizontal lines across the grain a giveaway for storm damage..you take a chance if you buy a storm damaged bat, as I have, other times you just don't know when buying it

No giveaway signs on this ....

Very possibly the case that we just didn't see it - but I was speaking to Tom @reaper cricket who also said that because everything is so dry now to try to get big pingy bats they are much more brittle - he also said that the willow is being harvested so early because of the demand and this leads to more defects etc. One of those things unfortunately. I really hope this gets replaced however because it was definitely not cheap and I've only had it three weeks haha

Looks like the handle fitting more than anything, usually storm damage has the relevant marks to go with it

Asad will look after you, heard nothing but praise for him and Uzi from the Trowbridge lads since I moved here!

I thought that but the bat maker at Reaper Cricket said it was more likely to be a fracture internally in the wood rather than the handle fit because the fit didn't look too bad according to him.

Asad has agreed to replace as I suspected he would - no questions asked so a great example of customer service there.
