'The biggest mistake we can make is to think we are better than we actually are'

A humble sportsman is pretty rare these days.

He is class and a legend. Probably the best Lankan batsman eve, I did like watching de silva growing up, but across all formats he is the best

Twin tons against Middlesex last weekend as well.
Brilliant.

Probably my favourite ever player! Absolute legend, humble, honest and world class.

Must go down in history as one of the top 10 best players to ever play the game in my opinion!

All I can say is I will cherish this summer at the Oval watching him. An absolute class to watch on and off the field and one of the legends of the game.

Best s.l player ever . Yes, i said 'player'.

What's the deal with that edge tape ? ( i guess hiding stamping /branding that may be detected  or readable through fibreglass tape . Or possibly to hid stamping in relation to hotspot icc rules ). In any event , it looks horrible .

Very busy batsman when it comes to batting. I will miss his cover drives. He was always a backbone of SL team.

Lovely bloke and very down to earth for someone held in such high regard by many people.

A class act. I'm a little embarrassed that it took this little end of career spell at Surrey for me to fully appreciate him.

Like a few have said: those cover drives!

Word gets used a lot but he's a true legend of the game, as others have said he was the best Sri Lanka have ever produced and one of the best worldwide of his generation.

Aravinda De Silva as far a style goes you could argue was more asthetic to look at, he played some great innings for Kent over here as overseas. Def one of my favourites to watch, and Jayawardene got the be one of the most stylish batsmen ever

But Sanga stats wise, mentally, and scored runs overseas when others did not has got to be the best out of Sri Lanka in recent years.

To think he kept for a long period for SL as well as batting 4.
