thought this story could be of interest to some people.
he also turned down offers from warwick and notts
massive shame that he is unlikely to play again this season
-
I agree it is a shame that Worcestershire would punish a young player by omitting him from their side in that way. It makes no sense as they will be paying his wages, and both the player and his suitor have treated Worestershire with respect throughout.
Lets bear in mind here, he is a Yorkshire lad, who went through the county youth set up before being poached with a school scholarship by Worcestershire.

Probably a bit of a culminating effect, they have produced a for number of players who's moved on to bigger counties haven't they?

Not so many of late, but yes.
-
Think that would be a fantastic signing. Back to where he started and a great move for both club and player. I'm excited about that
-
Maybe a loan move back to Yorkshire would be better for all parties?
-
Worcs have made an official statement it seems on their social media...talks ongoing
-
Think his brother plays in the Yorkshire prem as well so I'd assume it made more sense.
-
Yes, it has!
-
I believe he has left Worcester already and gone to Yorkshire for the rest of the season

I'm not 100% sure if he has gone to Yorkshire already but he played for Himley in the Birmingham League last Saturday http://himley.play-cricket.com/website/results/2918151 (http://himley.play-cricket.com/website/results/2918151)

For the record, this isn't bad going http://himley.play-cricket.com/website/results/2643868 (http://himley.play-cricket.com/website/results/2643868)

He's Oundles pro in the Northants prem.
Edit, just saw the date of that scorecard, 2016. He moved to Oundle over the winter.

'I'm joining the best club in England'
Quite right, Tom!

Glad this has no been released - fantastic opportunity for Tom and know doubt he will continue to impress.
Just to add - Tom is one of the nicest chaps I have had the pleasure of dealing with.

Going to go the way of football with transfer fees and where contracts mean diddly squat?

Just to put a little bit more info regarding this - Tom wanted to stop at Worcestershire this season and see his contract out - the only reason why he told them was out respect and to allow them time to find a replacement for him.

Seems like a catch 22 now. Do you tell your county/club that you are not going to renew and as a result get put into a situation like this or do you now wait until then end and then just not turn up to training the next season?

I think it all depends on the individual - in this case I think it says a lot about Tom.

Yorkshire also went about this in the correct way - no behind the scenes tapping up or the like. Once in the final year of a contract they must give a 28 day notice of approach to the contracted county which they did.
-
He could of waited until September to tell the club but chose to be helpful. Shame we won't see him play here again this season.
Who wouldn't want to play the Yorkshire being where he grew up and the amount of England's players in the squad

Fair enough.
-
As Worcester born and raised, I used to be a fan - safe to say I (along with a lot of my ex-team mates!) don't hold him in the same regard now. Don't honestly see him getting into the Yorkshire side at the moment but who knows.
The last Worcs player to leave the club purely to chase an England spot was Steve Davies, look how that went...
Wow, bitterness...
-
Ex Worcs and Leics Ben Smith playing too?
And sometime pod-shaver David Banks?

He was a success at Surrey.

Aren't Mo Sheikh and Naq Tahir ex-pros too?

Yep, both played for Warwickshire
-
Worcestershire could face Yorkshire in one-day semi. Presumably he wouldn't be allowed to play?

Why not? He's a Yorkshire player isn't he?
-
Cup-tied?
-
If he isn't cup tied would assume he would take Lees spot at the top of the order in one day format will be harder for him to get into 4 day squad but I would play him over leaning even after the Roses ton.
-
he isnt allowed to play against worcester this season in any format.
-
I thought that would probably be the case.

Not exactly the biggest news this morning!
It's probably his second debut for Yorkshire 2nds?
