Title: Sunglasses
Post by: adb club cricketer on June 04, 2017, 10:09:44 PM
Folks,

Are there any sunglasses out there which are impact resistant to cricket ball. If yes, any specs such as can withstand up to so and so speed ?
Similarly any plain glasses versions that can be used for night games which can resist cricket ball impact?

Thanks in advance,

I don't think anything is going to be that impact resistant as the frame will be bent out of shape if the ball hits them forcing them onto your face.

Its more about looking for frames that dont have nose pad parts , or any other part of the frame , that would have sharp enough edges / metal etc , that upon impact , could stab the eye . Folding , or bendy rubber nose pads , and good smooth frames are ideal . Arms with internal bendable wire are also advantageous.
Re standard glasses for night games , you can get clear prescriptions for any sports glasses/most sunglasses .
Ive got Nike Fleet and Adidas Invoke,  and will soon be getting Oakley Crosslink.  Highly recommend any of those .

I have Oakley Radarlock with 3 different lenses, absolutely superb-  doubt if anything would withstand ball impact?

Actually, some of the oakley glasses come with impact protection standard ANSI Z87.1 which specifies high mass and high impact protection. Not really looking for 80mph kind of protection, but on eye, even a 10 mph ball can cause harm, so having some protection is good.. couple of video links below about it.

Looks like it does offer some protection to cricket balls/baseballs etc.

Look at lots of top sunglasses on holiday Brought the new balance    as the polarisation  seemed sharper  they are sold as impact resistant but couldn't say to what level.

We sell Aspex sunglasses and i have been shown the demonstration video and the lenses themselves that survived being shot by a 12 bore shotgun (albeit heavily marked, but definitely unshattered and the shots did not penetrate the lens, just dents)

Our stumper hair uses safety glasses from Boc gas and gear.

The have uv protection and are available in clear, tinted, chrome and even yellow to add light(they work wonders for late night midweek games.

Best thing, there under a tenner each. And look half decent

I agree re yellow  lenses and overcast conditions.  Feels almost like an unfair advantage .  ;) :D
