After tweaking a few bats in a more "normal" way (tape etc to change handle, trimming handle/blade length, etc) I think I am now eligible for the most village award...
...had a custom bat that broke early. Manufacturer replaced under warranty, and I was happy using the broken one in nets against those terrible balls. But....New bat was just half an ounce heavier than the broken one and i started getting paranoid about the two not weighing the same.
And So, I proceeded to put a thick (the ones that come free with CA) scuff sheet on the BACK side of the bat, AND taped the BACK edges, along with wrapping some extra tape around the shoulder and toe. Loe and behold, the two bats now weigh the same. Village!!

Electrical tape wrapped around bats annoys me no end.

I played in an evening league game once and as the new batsman walked out, we asked if he could knock the stump in as it was loose. Instead of using the handle, he gave it a good whack with the face.... Thank god it was only a SportsDirect bat!

I'm with you there @skip1973!! Used to play against a fella who had a good foot of electrical tape around the middle of his bat, just awful
-
I have a Fusion bat where the previous owner has hammered a long metallic nail into the edge to prevent a potential split in the toe.
-
There was a time on here people were putting monster energy drinks stickers on their bats 😂
-
Black tape in stead of scuff or fibreglass or nails to fix cracks both fairly village
-
Fibreglass scuff sheets full stop ;)
(Awaits barrage of abuse)
-
Old team mate of mine used to keep his bat in a bucket of linseed oil... also batted without gloves
-
I played a team a few weeks ago where a chap had a blank bat - however he (or his children) had coloured in Red,blue, green and yellow felt tip pen their own "Stickers" lol made me smile

Or a badly torn grip with holes in their gloves
-
I once played against a guy who had lots of brown parcel tape wrapped around his bat
-
Left in a cupboard and never actually used.

Man, if it was good enough for Victor Trumper (no gloves either) it ain't village!

@trypewriter - being a terrible PEDANT!!! I think he might have finger protectors on his bottom hand - which obviously only makes him half as manly!

Played in the same team as a bloke who did this. He got welcomed to the wicket once with 'who called a sparky?"
Most village thing I've seen is someone deciding to oil their bat in the changing room before batting AND it had a scuff sheet on. He couldn't work out why the oil wasn't absorbing. Tw*t.
