Title: England Need A Bowling Coach ? But Not AD !
Post by: Watsontotty on February 02, 2010, 11:48:56 PM
Looks like England could offer AD the England bowling coaches job ? for me no way in the world should h be given it as he turned his back on us last time he was with England. I wont be happy at all if he gets it, not got a problem with his ability though.

Donald could never give England his full attentions or effort because he is a proud saffer. He proved his dislike for England during his playing career during the encounters he had with athers! i say go with someone english

He knows english cricket inside out, and has an english wife, i believe. Why not? the guy is a legend and if he produces results, then I dont care where he is from.

I would prefer Troy Cooley to come back though!

I would like to see Darren Gough given a go.  A highly skilled bowler in all forms of the game, with a great attitude, and close enough to the players to engage them.

Ian Pont every time for me.

Ian is a man who is a genuine 'revolutionary' in the game, and his track record speaks for itself.

Ian Pont is an interesting shout... I didn't know much about him, but this is quite interesting. http://www.maverickscricket.com/who.htm

not sure I will ever be able to bowl the "worlds best slower ball" though

Mr Pont is well spoken about and highly regarded from what i have heard! although his coaching academy may take up a fair slice of his time

what actually does a bowling coach do?! if the players are good enough to get to that standard, should they really need one?!
i know there is obviously some reason, but otis gibson was only a average county player- so how is he qualified to coach england bowlers

bowling tactics, fine tuning of technique, mentality and more i expect.
the best coaches are not always the best players.

Excatly look at terry Jenner, only play a handful of tests and yet many see him as the best spin coach around!

Wouldnt mind seeing Donald as bowling coach, and has just expressed his interest in the job.
Bowlers will always have something new to learn, fine tune technique, preventing injury etc, so a bowling coach has its uses!

His child was 8, I can understand fully not wanting to be away from them particularly when you understand how often these guys are touring.

I do question if he should do it now though with a young family who he clearly has wanted to support in the past.

Interesting appointement  -
The former Victoria fast bowler, David Saker, has been named as England's new bowling coach, after a lengthy search for a replacement for Ottis Gibson, who took charge of West Indies in February this year. Saker joins the ECB following a six-year tenure as assistant coach of Victoria, the state he represented at first-class level on 49 occasions.

He wont no anything about the county scene and the up and coming players who are possibly in line for a place in the future. Sorry but why the hell cant we employ someone from the UK like an ex international player Gough or Daffy and i could name many many more. I'm not happy with this at all but at least Donald dint get it.

Loads of people seem to be pushing for buying local British meat, veg, cricket bats etc.
Sadly there is a lack of confidence in British coaches for anything thats football or cricket related.
Too many excellent football and cricket coaches have missed out on the bigger jobs and if you do get somewhere like Peter Moores, Venables and Robson the press.....or players will bring you down eventually!
