Stickers say "designed by Robert Pack in the UK".
Surely not doing the Millichamp and Hall?
-
Certainly not been to the pack cave a fair few times, spend hours there tinkering the ones I've had made by him, he's one of the few left in the uk who make everything from scratch
-
Bit of a strange thing to put on the stickers then? Does he have a trainee/apprentice batmaker working for him perhaps??

Even then it doesn't say 'made in the uk'.
-
I think it's the actual stickers that are designed by Rob and made in the UK. Nothing to do with his bats which are still handmade by him.
-
Perhaps the forum sponsor will clarify for us?

I have 4 blueroom/RPC bats that have been made to my specific requirements I make the 450 mile round trip every season to pop in and have a chat with the bloke and pick my bats up and see if there's anything that takes my fancy in the showroom, I certainly wouldn't waste my time if I knew they were just imported and stickers applied to them, if I wanted that I'd go straight to the bat supplier myself, if you honestly believe that they aren't handmade in the the little bat shed and out house to the back of the store ,then why dont you go down yourself and take a look maybe that will clear things up for you

I don't actually think he is implying that.....but whatever the reason is, it does seem an odd thing to put on your stickers?!

This type of argument could equally be used to defend the much maligned Millichamp and Hall?
-
Well if you don't believe me why don't you visit rob yourself and find out ?
-

No he does not have an apprentice bat maker. He has a lad who works in the shop for him but rob makes all the bats himself, from scratch.
Rob has been shipping a few handmade bats over to oz/nz so perhaps this is why he started to put this on the bats.
I went over only a few weeks ago mind and had one made right infront of me, there was also 2 other lads who did the same.
-
You can also see a workshop and bats being made at Taunton.
-
@Bats_Entertainment do us all a favour, phone Rob and ask him yourself and then kindly share your findings with the rest of us.

Why? I don't need to prove anything to anyone. I was merely reporting what was written on the stickers.

No, it's seems you want clarification on the matter, so give him a bell and find out.
-
It does not seem that the forum sponsor is active anymore / may be away?
Anyway, in my opinion the stickers may have been applied as they are being stocked on the shelf in some places, which would make sense for the stickers to be there.

Did anyone ring Rob at Millichamp and Hall for clarification?
-
I think real life takes over sometimes, Bats, so if you're happy to take that one on and feedback I'm sure everyone would be interested to hear.
-
I am satisfied with my own conclusions, thank-you very much.

You gotta love this forum sometimes. Someone throws out some potentially damaging speculation about an honest and hard working bat maker, then walks away as if it's nothing to do with them. No wonder Rob doesn't post on here anymore.
-
It's liking farting in a small waiting room and then wandering out without a care in the world.
-
Rob is one of the most genuine and hard working blokes I've met, can't do enough for you and then you get some idiot that tries to tarnish someone's reputation like that, if you weren't bothered why start a topic about it anyways !
-
What do want me to do? Apologise?
Why on earth wouldn't he just put 'Handmade in the UK' on his bats? I thought other people would be interested given all the fuss there's been about Newbery and Millichamp and Hall.
But this really isn't that important to me. I've got a cricket bat and I'm happy with it.
All I've done is reported an observation, and stated what that kind of wording usually means.
At best, there is a presentation issue.
Rob/ whoever normally speaks for him is free to give an explanation.

No wonder.

Yes, just like that. ;)

I sympathise with you. To me your query certainly seemed genuine and it was a good observation. If people didn't question such things we would all believe Slazenger bats were all made in England too.
It can be difficult to judge tone on a forum and sometimes people reach for their pitchforks a little quickly.

Thank you.

If it had been phrased along the lines of 'rob pack should make sure he includes a made in England sticker as well as designed in England one', then people would have praised your observational skills and business acumen.

Did we tiptoe around Newbery and M&H like that?
I suspect people are a little keen to show off how well they know their ("good, honest, hardworking") personal batmaker?

Evening,
Anyone wanting detailed reasoning as to why Rob chose the wording he did is free to give the man a call direct and he will gal for hours with you.
His stickers are made locally in Northants and are designed by Rob (with input from the company, Matt (shop assistant) and a anyone who is a regular who he will always ask an opinion from.
I know Rob grows his own willow and has sources within Broughton estate for their willow. He also gets willow from the traditional source of J.S.Wrights. These are then turned into bats by Rob himself.
If anyone has any other questions then please give the man a call directly.
