no need for me to know when you have made your mind up. it's only 300+ pounds sterling.
-
I would hope its made out of gold at that price!
-
Are any of our lads in these? Any Mongoose/ Ayrtek/ H4L/ Vantage etc stuff?
-
Mongoose are in all the reviews and guides, fingers crossed there may even be a rather fetching photo of me in one.
-
OMG your Jimmy Anderson are'nt you - i knew it!!!!!!!! Can i have your autograph???/
Anywaym, Will these elusive softs be reviewed?????
-
just noticed that there is a mix up with Puma and Redback....
Cant spot Ayrtek or H4L in the AOC guide
-
No softs won't, IPL time will be the launch of them I would think hopefully with a big name player sporting them.
-
big name like "Ilikena Lasarusa Talebulamainavaleniveivakabulaimainakulalakebalau" the Fijian Cricketer?
-
We already have one big name, Ebony-Jewel Cora-Lee Camellia Rosamond Rainford-Brent. Could do with another though!
-
That reminds - Fiji - Rugby - 6 nations - Saturday - Must buy some more beer.
When is the first IPL match by the way and Is your review in their Andreas Theodopolopodos?
-

No reviews AOC has an equipment guide split into price ranges... So for example Bats in the £150 then £160 etc etc

If you get a few more you can put it on your Twitter / Webpage
"Mongoose, where all the Big name Cricketers go for there bats"
In fact do it anyways

Haven't sent anything to AOC this year have just done wisden. Cricket world are keen to do something with us...IPL starts on 12th march I think!?
-
I got AOC yesterday. I dont think it is a guide to be honest, it seemed like a glorified brochure for Serious Cricket to me. There is certainly nothing other than pis that we are already familiar with. Bit disappointed!
-
What do you mean disappointed check out page 42 of the guide
-
Just had a quick look, very pleased with the write up for the CoR3 in the 'cool stuff' section. Look forward to seeing the full reviews in March.
19th Feb for the Wisden one too.
-
Looking through the guide
Wavex, AVP - pretty sure it isnt a Kippax and cant find a website????
-
I've just picked up the guide, and the one thing that's amazed me is the high end price of gloves and pads.
I mean c'mon guys this is MENTAL!!!!!!!!!!! Who's buying gloves for £80 and pads for £125??????????
In my humble opinion, no softs can be worth this much, even if you are playing at a top league level. To pay over £200 for your softs is just mad. It may just be me, but I'm sure you can pick up fantastic quality gloves for £30 and pads for £40 tops?
I'm sure you'll all shoot me down in flames, but I think the spiralling price of softs has got out of control and is just silly.
By all means buy a branded bat used by some superduper international for £200 - but don't let them fleece you another £200 for protection!

I bet you are on about the Kook 1000's.
-
Take your pick - 17 pairs of pads above £90 and 8 pairs of gloves above £70.
I'm not tight - but I'm not stupid either!

i guess that it is all about keeping up with the jones's ... you're right though, you've really got to search for fairly priced softs. £35 is my limit, however shiny and tempting the pictures are.
there are bills to pay after all ...
-
C'mon boys, who out there has spent the £200 on both softs?
-
I agree, the costs these days are mental, but then again not all cricketers spend most of their spare time on a forum discussing where to get the best deal like us lot either!
-
i spent just under a ton
-
I would probably spend up to £40 on gloves and £60 on pads, and I am not poor or tight either!!
-
I'm a very average batsmen, so I wouldn't spend more than £80 tops on both. Currently I've got pads and gloves as samples from Champ Sport and Protos. The gloves cost £17.50 and the pads £30 - however probably worth double that if branded, and both pieces are fabulous.
Having looked at value for money in the guide, i would probaly go SF or Hunts County on my budget.
-
i literally have to get new gloves every season, at least! sweatyhand syndrome.... i just look for cheap ones going and most of the time get them for free!
-
I try to keep two new pairs in the bag, and then a third which is a few seasons old which are for comfort.
Pads i have two sets just incase i play in the rain the previous day.
-
I have winter nets tonight for the first time and just dug out my gloves that are a season old.
Worryingly, this displays just how poor I am as a batter, as they appear brand new still! In the darkness of winter, somehow they were threadbare and I scored 1000 runs last summer and i needed a new pair. Obviously not!!! I am clearly rubbish!
-
I think the prices in there are the prices manufacturers give the shops as RRP then the shops usually knock 20% off i think. Thats the case with mine anyways.

Fair play Vannie - but that still mean £64 for gloves and £100 for pads with the discount.
You know what softs can be bought from in India, and I certainly do. If you buy in enough bulk as the big boys do, then that makes the shipping very cheap per unit - so it still seems an awful mark up for us poor mug punters!
Fortunately, for apparent skinflints like me, there is always something super cheap on offer to be had.
