Title: Chris Lynn's Bat
Post by: InternalTraining on August 30, 2017, 01:46:08 AM
So, I waited for this bat for sometime and it eventually became available. This bat was made for Chris Lynn by Stuart Kranzbuhler. Chris Lynn injured his shoulder and won't be able to lift a bat till December 2017 and by then new MCC regulations will take effect. Long and short of it is that I was able to source this bat thru Muelemans. It weighs a little over 2-12 (edit: 2-12.7) but picks up heavy. Edge size is about 47 mm, spine height is close to 76mm, toe in the middle is 33 mm. It has an extremely forward set handle and giant bow! The blade is about inch shorter than a standard SH blade and the overall length of the bat is also about an inch shorter than the SH size. I have never seen a brand new, unknocked bat ping like this, it is ridiculous! I was told that the bat is a "rocket" but it is heavy which I found to be true. Here are the pics:

This looks awesome but the shorter length will work for you?

Looks great mate! Would you mind sharing a ping video?

I actually prefer them. For a while, I was using size 6 (light) bats and because of that my hands stay 2 inches below the top of the handle. I play late and prefer to punch so shorter bats work for me. :)

Now i feel sorry for the bowlers.. anything rebounding from the face or even edge will be a boundary.

I am sure this is the first time such statement has been made about a bat's pickup "It weighs a little over 2-12 but picks up heavy"
Had to read it multiple times   :o :o  ;)

They certainly have been popular, all the ones we have had through are similar size specs but we've had some as light 2.8.

Which retailer are you talking about? And, what is that model called?

Description of the bat is very inticing..... would it be possible for
You to share pictures of this with the scale on it for the sizes.....
Have seen some short blade bats being called Academy size bats,
And being used by players mainly for T20 competition but with a
Longer Handel though. Willow looks amazing..... weight sounds good,
This rocket might be a killer.

being one of Chris Lynn's friends and use to play at the same club, you get to see what he is using.
He dropped a bat round the week before he had surgery for me to fix and it looks nothing like that i'm sorry.
Different sticker models, different shape, different shape toe and no forward set handle.

I have just purchased one of these bats from Meuleman's and I have to agree with Australian Fast Bowler in regards to the fact that it is not the same shape that Chris Lynn uses , not even close.... I have not seen any marketing that ties the two together either , apart from the fact that he endorses the Velocity range with Peter Nevill and Kane Williamson. I have a normal Velocity 1200 and now a Players Choice and the shapes are vastly different. It is good to see that some of the SK big bats are still selling and I believe this is a niche area of the market that will continue to love these bats for a little while to come at least.

Kingsgrove catalogue,  2017-18 , pg 14 .... item 25 , g.n velocity players choice , chris lynn's own model . $495.

That suggests marketing that connects lynn to this specific model/shape . However , if it is nowhere near his actual shape , it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

Regardless of whether lynn uses this shape or not , it seems a perfect @InternalTraining shape ! It's everything you've been looking for lately , big spine (like the velocity 2000 original , almost xp80- my smallest xp80 actually has a 77mm spine ! ) , big edges , big toe , big sweetspot,  sk made , grainy . Hopefully my meulemans sk bat ( i will have it in a few weeks) will suit my preferences half as well .  :)

You can't go wrong with a SK bat. A great bat maker that is consistently doing what others in the market are still trying to keep up with.... Good luck with yours .... It should be a cannon if it's coming from Meuleman's.

Do they make Velocity in standard blade? If yes where can I buy them?

Yes , The standard blade is the 700 , 900 , 1200 ,1500XL and 2000XL. Any Gray Nicolls retailer in Australia has them in stock.

I got the bat because Lynn did not use it - too big for specs. SK made it for him. Also, from what I have heard, SK made bats don't always match the "standard" catalogue shape or even one another - there are slight variations.

I don't think this is a standard Velocity shape either even though Mueleman use its picture for the Players Velocity shaped bat.

This bat was a "one off" and there is no marketing for it. In fact, it was in the possession of one of the family players who wanted to reduce its weight.

Gents, fret not , SK indeed made it for Chris Lynn who never used it.  :)

And, I trust Bob Mueleman's word.

Are you SK's mole on this forum? Are you to him what Podrick is to Brienne on GOT? :D

Man, you post all these cryptic message but nothing ever concrete. Let's get a public message from SK about this bat. In fact, put me in touch SK. I have Bob M's word and it is good. All you have is speculation. Man up, bruh.

Dem's fightin words dem is  !  :D

But , yeah Aussiecollector seems hooked in with g.n aus somehow... perhaps works at g.n melbourne factory ? Who knows , maybe even one of sk's underling batmakers ? .....would be nice if he told us , but understandable if he didn't.
I cant think of a reason not to believe either b.meuleman or s.k ..... so I'll leave it up to the cricket gods . (Perhaps skip1973 could be the only other potential candidate to be able to shed some light on these mysterious g.n oz goings-on ?)

Golden rule of the forum number 1: buy bat
2 if in doubt , buy bat
3 if it is the wrong bat , then its a reason to buy 2nd bat
4 repeat this process until you find 'the' bat
5 after 2 weeks of staring /drooling over 'the' bat , decide it's just 'a' bat , and repeat process from step 1 again .  :)

One has to enjoy the drama and unfolding storyline of this thread. Just as GOT ends, the Game of Lynn's Bat starts.

What will the next twist in the tale be?

I have recently held (at training) a signature that was 2.15 and picked up around 2.13.5/2.14 . Felt much nicer /better balanced than any ive seen in the shops . The shape isnt dissimilar to your kaboom , so might be worth consideration.

Lynn signs out-of-the-blue deal to use robinsons sports pro edition bats , sending half the forum into orgasmic fits , and making this thread a series of moot points .
Meanwhile bob meuleman and s.k become the undercard for the Mayweather vs McGregor rematch !  :D :D :D

Is that how much you paid for yours?! Have to say, worth every penny, this looks a monster! :) Strange how it picks up quite heavy though, with that shape, you'd expect a pretty decent pick up!
