Hi all, I recently purchased a Prostate Cancer charity bat from M&H. It's a lovely bat bat with a really nice full profile and beautiful pick up. Grains are nice too and I am happy EXCEPT that the handle is very, very thin. I have small hands (wear youth gloves) but even for me the handle feels very thin. I have heard the other downside with a thin handle is that it puts a lot of pressure on the shoulder of the bat and may eventually crack it prematurely.
I am thinking about returning the bat except I like the blade so much. So my question is - if I eventually have the bat rehandled will it take away from the feel or ping if the bat? I have heard that a bat once it has had its handle replaced performs not so well. I would really appreciate any advice or insight from forum members on this.
I am aware of the reputation that M&H have with some members but putting that aside what would you recommend?

Just get the handle double binded?
Makes the handle thicker and the extra layer of twine will give the shoulders and handle extra support so should resolve your concerns about the handle and shoulder cracking prematurely

I have never experienced a deterioration in the performance of a bat from a rehandle.

Had the handled replaced on my warner players edition, and it had no dramatic effect on performance. In fact because it had the right size handle For me, it performaned better.

Try putting on an extra grip or two and it will feel like the best bat ever. Also the extra grip will improve the pickup tremendously!

This is unusual. I recently had a bat rehandled at M&H and they were brilliant. And the handle is a really chunky oval...
I'd just ask them to rehandle your bat for you if you live locally.

Thanks very much for the feedback, it's really helpful. I've tried to put on extra grip but takes the bat up another ounce and at 2.9 already it means I have to try to wield a 2.10 bat with my puny arms! I am wondering how much weight extra binding may take the bat to.
Tomorrow is the last day by which I need hat like the shape of the NB bat make a decision before I send it back. To be honest the bat looks like the NB bat Stokes uses. Very full, square toe, big edges (40mm) and lower middle. I will look to post some pics if I hold onto it

That's probably because they actually put the handle in your bat... ;)

saw a few millichamps at kingsgrove today.... first time I've seen them in the flesh for sooo many years. one of the models had the thinnest handle ive ever seen on a bat . i was shocked . i could have snapped it in my hands without even trying . the other model had so much concave it looked more like a twin scoop. they seem utter rubbish compared to the good ol days.

extra binding adds about an ounce to the bat as I have all my bats double bound.
I don't worry about extra weight as its adding weight to the handle so actually improves pick up from my experience

Before the expense of a rehandle try extra grips Double bind or get a thicker grip

Thanks to everyone for their feedback. After thinking about I have decide to send the bat back as at £350 I want to make sure I get the right one for me. I will probably travel to Taunton to pick one out in the new season as it's for a great cause.

That'll be down to the difference in the handles they do themselves compared to the now overwhelming majority of Indian made skinny handled bats that they sell.

I find the same inpartular half a thick grip on the top half of the handle.
