This seems a crazy topic to post in September, as I know a lot of you will still be playing proper cricket!
I've had a text from the skipper saying our indoor league starts on 17th September! Is anyone else starting indoors this early?
-
My last outdoor league game is actually a fairly early finish this year, September 16th....
-
We run a junior indoor comp at work that starts this Monday for 4 weeks. Can't get enough Cricket, they have kids playing football pretty much all through the year so why not cricket
-
Start training for the uni season pretty much as soon as we get back in a few weeks.
Then in a month or two we start our season at Headingley (think we play over 3 weekends)
Probably won't get a look in as I'm not a great batsman and spinners tend to get battered indoors (and as one of the four people running the uni club this year, I can't show favouritism to myself!)
-
not sure but I think October up here, but I am officially retired after breaking both bones in my right forearm running into a wall.
-
We don't have any indoor cricket at our club. Shame really, as I quite enjoy it (and it swings indoors too :))
-
First week in Jan 2018 for us up to the end of March
-
I've had some really great fun times playing indoor cricket over the years but I have noticed a big variation in the appetite for it depending where I happened to be living.
We did do a team a few years ago but it become a big struggle to put a team out... the club is in a different place with more young free and single (well no kids) about that also play midweek games in summer so it might be worth floating the idea again.
-
Not til October here, that does seem early!
Moving clubs @DorsetDan ?
-
Mid October round 'ere
Silly cricket really but a good chance to get to know people at the new club for me
Have you told them yet that you 'haven't played for a long time?' - bandit!!

First indoor game tonight and got off to a winning start
We batted first and posted 145 off 12.
My personal contribution was 10 off 4 balls (including a bomb first nut) before being run out with 9 balls of the innings left. As we had wickets in hand we were running regardless so I did my bit for the team!
In reply we restricted the opposition to 70 odd. I went for 13 off my 3 overs and ran someone out. Actually enjoyed a game of indoor cricket for once!
Next game isn't until 22nd October now though
-
Definitely open to options and keen for something more local as the travelling was getting a bit much
Where do you play Dan? Chippenham? I havent play indoor cricket for years - used to really enjoy it
-
ah ok where is that held? at the uni?
-
Bristol stuff kicks off early October for us (@The County Ground)
Have begrudgingly put my name down as available if reqd

First indoor games for uni today!
After losing 75% of our players to graduation last year, we weren't really expecting to win any of our 4 games, especially not when we realised we were playing all the games back to back after a team didn't show up.
I only played the last 2 games. We gave them too many in the first game before being beaten by the best uni of the tournament who were incredible. 3rd game got battered again, where their keeper took a head high catch standing up to a rapid bowler, one of the best pieces of cricket i've ever seen. Last game won an absolute thriller that went down to the last ball, where i 'pulled' the last ball for 3 (was a slap of my gloves as i was late on it) to win it.
Overall a better set of results than expected, as being a small uni with a small influx of players after losing 5 out of our best 6 indoor players, 4 heavy losses was on the cards.
Some lads were disappointed not to be selected, but there's only so many times you can tell someone that you don't need to whack the ball as hard as you can to score runs. all of my runs came from pushing and prodding behind square, or from defending it into the side wall (and i'm a number 7/8 in a div 5 team, but i have a brain!)
We also came up with a novel way to wicket-keep to spin. With our keeper taking his gloves off and standing back, he could cover the off-side back wall, giving us an extra fielder to stop it infront of square.

We played a regional semi a few years back and Ryan Davies was playing for the oppo. His keeping was something else! Was only after the game that we found out he was the England U19 keeper at the time! Now playing for Somerset I believe having left Kent.

Overdue update on this.
I play at a couple of venues for my club and have had mixed fortunes to say the least.
At the Ageas bowl we are bottom of the table, having only won once. It's a funny old game as we finished runners up last season with the same side
As we had all but lost I had a bit of fun last game, which included ramping their opening bowler! :D
At the local sports hall we are unbeaten at the halfway stage of the season. We have one more game before Xmas against the only other unbeaten side. Fingers crossed we're on for a bit of silverware :D
-
Nice on Cam, will pencil you in for the over 50's in a few years
good luck with the silverware. Always nice to win something
-
5 out of 9 games played and still unbeaten!
Time for a celebratory drink :D

one of my more impressive performances of late :D :D

@delazy is that proper indoor cricket with a yellow semi hard ball, no pads ect?
-
yeh... but its a 6 a side competition...
bowl 2 overs / bat 4 overs / - 5 runs for a wicket
-
Ahhh ok I play the 8 man version. Any one else on here play this variety?

Used to, loved it. Not all that much like real cricket but far more fun than the more common versions here in the UK.

I'm guessing at Bristol? I played there a few times in national league games, nice centre.
-
Yes at Action indoor sports in bristol. Much better format than the county ground games
-
Been playing the 6 a side stuff at the county ground, and prefer it to the 8 a side we used to play. It has reignited my enjoyment for indoor which is good.

Never played at the Bristol one actually, Leicester and in university champs at Derby.
Haven't played in the county ground ones, is it the old 6 a side /10 overs/2 per bowler @Byo ? Don't mind the format as long as you've got a new ball, if the ball's not doing anything then it's a very easy game for a sensible batsman.
-
Its 12 overs and 3 per bowler, good fun and run well.

Makes a big difference that last one!
