Well that's it for me for the season, a good one for my side, promoted to Div 1 this year finished mid table-pretty good. Our ones survived in the relegation battle too.
For me average stats wise, but the bowling we are facing is very decent and at times I've played as well as I have for years..so pretty happy. But that only came about after a fair amount of work during the closed season trying to work on balance and hitting thru the line more. It did work to some extent.
Enough about me, what are you planning to work on during the winter to improve? Or do you forget about batting until January or Feb when most club nets get going?.
Ah....nearly forgot, fitness.....needs improving, I'm starting with regular walking each weekend starting October and taking a bit of weight off...about half a stone.
Let us know what you are going to do to improve your cricket, some of us could be planning the same things :)

I am contemplating moving clubs to see if my loss of enthusiasm is locational or, as I fear, terminal.
So this is the main thing that I am working on.

I started the season really well but tailed off. Shoulder gave me trouble all season and rarely bowled. I want to get shoulder looked at and then once I'm fit begin weight training and work on developing faster hands with weighted bat and bands.

May or may not apply to you but I've found personally I've found a determination to improve my own game as I'm still at the same standard I was 25 years ago which is tough(I'm 50)...As I could see some improvement I enjoyed the game more.
I didn't want to be left behind as a has-been.
But that's just how I found more enjoyment playing.

Have spent some time with Gary Palmer and @jblowe changing my setup.
So for me it is now about grooving that and making it second nature!
Second thing for me to work on is judging spin bowlers length better.
Lastly working on running (not run regularly for 18 months) in case I get a London Marathon place, plus will help with 2018 fitness levels too!
-
Fitness is my main thing and just tinkering technically a little more to accommodate opening for our first team next year that and just trying to be more precise in shot selection, plus working out some more get out of jail shots to rotate the strike, apart from the fitness aspect it's nothing major just a few small things to work on
-
I, similarly to @petehosk have been to see Gary Palmer a couple of times now and have changed my setup and technique quite drastically, so this will be the main focus of the close season, coupled with trying to work on my offies to add another string to my bow
-
Understand my batting to a tee so it's fitness still an excellent fielder but runnings a problem so it's Saturday morning football training for me and more walking as the only walking i do is around house.
Also could do with building up arm muscles.

You know it makes sense! Suns out, guns out!

As with many of us, the off-season will be spent trying to shift a few pounds! I'm down just under a stone in the last month but still a fair way to go to get to where I want to be. Just need to make sure I stick to my gym/food routine
-
Id like to see an improvement in picking up length better.
Also as much as I'd like to consider myself a seamer still if i want to stay in the 1s team i might have to change to a spinner. So being able to control both disciplines would be nice.
-
For my bowling I would like to be able to bowl the inswinger (the outswinger is my stock ball). Maybe also increase my pace but I'm not getting any younger so not sure how worthwhile that will be.
On batting it would just be nice to spend time at the crease. Because I was playing 1s this year I only got to the crease 4 times in the 9 games I played, and 2 of those were not out (in one I didn't face a ball whilst 2 wickets fell).

Interesting a couple of the forum have been to see Gary Palmer, if it's drastic change to technique will you be able to adopt it during practice so it is easy to be come a natural (consistent) change or do you simply not know until after lengthy use with the new technique?

To me if I use something enough it will become second nature and as long as I follow what Gary told me it will be a good change

Like @LEACHY48 I wil be practicing as much as possible!
It is funny that what I will be practicing is always a little different from what I have been taught. But with the help of a camcorder to review net footage, together with some reminders (and guidance/coaching) from @jblowe I am hoping this should go ok off season!
And really am aiming for this to become second nature!
-
Where do you practice, Pete?
-
Be interesting to know what is the suggested change @petehosk and @LEACHY48 if you don't mind sharing?
My winter will be spent in the gym trying to get fitter again as I appear to have comfort eaten with my pregnant wife last year and then net some more with new club, hoping to be able to play a lot more than I did this year and want to try and push for the first team if I can which is Herts ECB Prem and would be a step up the ladder for me so a lot of work needed over the winter with both bat and ball.
-
Yeah sure @Calzehbhoy essentially it's just being more open in your stance to play effectively between mid on and midwicket if you type in Gary palmer batting tips on YouTube he's got an 11 minute video explaining it, essentially it means that your head stops falling over to the off side when the ball moves In and your in a good position to cover the away movement too.
-
I will be a very brave boy and start another topic with links to youtube so you can see me trying to follow Gary's instruction!!

@Chalkie I wouldn't worry too much about the pace mate, you're more than useful at the pace you already bowl and you run the risk of messing everything up by striving for more.
Work on the inducker or off cutter. I'll sort you out mate! :)
-
I would like an out-bender.
-
Oh- and to not be afraid of the ball when batting. #number11
-
I need to work on my forward defensive.
-
like @petehosk and @LEACHY48 I am a big fan of Gary Palmer. He totally changed cricket for me. I went from being absolutely hopeless to being Absolutely hopeless, but believing I am just a little better than Rubbish.
Most coaches are just glorified bowling machine feeders, they put the ball in and tell you if your doing this or that wrong. Being coached by GP is TOTALLY different, he teaches a Completely different way to bat. It it is not for everyone but I loved it
-
As for things I need to work on for next season. It will be how to count to six, and how to stay awake and concentrate for 90 overs.
-
Personally i just need to work on loosing weight and getting fitter being 20 odd stone does not help in fielding, batting or bowling . If i can cut 4 stone and improve general fitness i think my game would naturally improve slightly. Then look to practice practice practice as much as possible so everything becomes natural.
-
Things to work on, hmmm
A shed load of weight off for a start, crack on with the kettlebells and try and hit the ground running next season, as opposed to a slow walk/hobble etc
Technique wise, gawd knows
Kit wise, I need loadsa stuff.
Really fancy a laver
