Title: Cherwell League 2018 Restructure
Post by: uknsaunders on September 26, 2017, 11:22:00 PM
I heard 6/7 OCA teams were joining and below div 5 it was going to be north/south. Any truth in the rumours?

Not in Cherwell anymore but according to league minutes 3 OCA clubs were accepted and 4 were rejected. If they do go north/south I'd imagine there could be a few happy cricketers considering some of the distances involved!

Wolverton to Didcot or Abingdon or Shipton-under-Wychwood...

Shipton is worth the trek

Agreed.

Think longest I had was Wallingford to Cropredy, miles! Most of our games were treks to be honest, Shipton, Banbury, Tew, Leighton Buzzard, Buckingham. Don't miss the travel times involved although Wallingford has since pretty much folded.

Minster Lovell to Stokenchurch
Westbury to Challow

all good fun

New clubs (if they are excepted at the AGM) are
Charlbury 1st (OCA Div 1 champs) 2nds (OCA Div 6 Runners-up)
East & West Hendred (OCA Div 1 3rd place) 2nds (OCA Div 6 7th place)
Eynsham (OCA Div 2 5th Place) 2nds (OCA Div 7 8th place (bottom))

I would expect Charlbury and E&W Hendred will be in CL Div 4 and Eynsham in Div 5.

I think 1 more might be looked at. OCA standard much weaker based on your predictions?

3 clubs only, according to both the CL and OCA Committee minutes. The last four OCA clubs that entered the CL (by winning Div 1 of the OCA), were placed in Div 4 of the CL, ALL of them won the division easily. then seem to stall in Div 3.  I would expect the lower divisions of both leagues to be similar in standard, the difference being the CL play a lot more juniors as they have better youth set ups.  I would say the OCA is a bit more of a VILLAGE CRICKET League.

The OCA have won 3 of the 4 representative matches between the two leagues.

Very village Jason
Nowt wrong with a bit of village tho

I played Cherwell for Challow for two seasons, crap standard and most up their own backsides.
Oca I reckon is similar standard, but a lot less serious.
There's a lot of ex cherwell players playing oca now
