Title: Hawk cricket bats
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on October 01, 2017, 12:41:24 PM
Hi all

I've seen a blank bat that is apparently made by Hawk. Are there any signs to look out for that confirm the bat is a Hawk or not?

I've heard a couple of people say they have the performance pressed out of them, while others give rave reviews.
For those who have actually owned or used one are they worth buying one?

Thanks in advance
Cameron

Yes that's correct Tom I used an Hawk in 2017 that was made for me in 2009 to my specs also have known the owners since they started Hawk as we live in the same area.

@Seniorplayer
Can I pick your brains then please Alan?

Are there any tell tale signs that a bat is definitely Hawk made?
And as you're still using a bat made in 2009 you clearly rate it. Do they ping from the off or take some playing in?

They are pressed slightly harder, bit like L&W and will take time to open up Cam. They do two shapes mainly XB series and classic thin edges.

Hi Cam the grip if it's an original it will have  blocks of blue Grey blue grey with two different patterns also the binding it will be thin bright white cotton Hawk currently make 5 shapes XB 100 300 500 700  and 900 if the one you have is not an Hawk shape it may still be an Hawk as they also make to customer specs as for  pressing  see quite a lot of Hawks in the Worcester league and they all ping.
I think the hard pressed notion that we hear is from the very early days of bat making.
Hawks website  does mentions pressing.

Well I took the plunge and gambled on a £50 blank supposedly made by Hawk

The stickers had been removed (but there was an imprint which confirms it at least had Hawk stickers). Apparently it's not been used but there appears to be paint on the toe guard from crease tapping.

It's being sent to a certain @tom line for a proper refurb, hopefully it turns out to be a goodun!
Pictures to follow tonight  :)

If it's a hawk it will have its unnjque production number handwritten somewhere on the handle under the grip

As sp says their hard pressed reputation comes from more classical bats they made years ago, now make much more modern profiles that go well

As promised, pictures of the bat.
I haven't seen or received the bat yet, and it's being posted directly to Tom. These have been taken directly from the eBay listing.

Have seen a few with edge stamping that looks exactly like that so I'd say it's genuine

Hawk's don't seem to be very tendy at the moment, and not just on the forum, but they do make a good stick, 50 is a bargain.
