Hello all,
I'm new to the forum but thought you might be able to help. I'm getting back into cricket next year after a 10 year plus break, so looking to get all new kit but things have changed a fair bit since I last played (mainly with the bats, width, profiles but mainly costs!). I'm a top order bat and played to a pretty decent local league standard until I finished, so always had decent gear. So I'm looking at spending £200 - £250 for a new bat and have always preferred a light pick up with straight grains, no blemishes etc. I appreciate this would maybe mean a grade 1 bat and maybe purely aesthetic, but it's just the way I've always gone. I saw a Puma Evopower 1 for £220 at a shop, liked the look and pickup but have seen the SE version also for £250. I'm thinking buy one now and get more for my cash than I would next year. Having never used Puma I wondered if anyone had any experience/views on them?
Thanks

Puma softs are always of pretty good quality (even if the pads do sometimes look a bit Storm Trooper).
No idea of the current batch of bats, but a teammate used full gear a couple of years ago and his LE bat (one with all black labels from memory) was a great bat!
-
Thanks. Bats have changed a bit and there's a lot of smaller makers/brands about to choose from as well as the more established ones, so it ain't that easy knowing what to go for. Obviously with a lot of gear to buy I'm trying to get value and it seemed a lot of bat for the money.

Check out what Vitas have on offer today and the rest of the week, deffo more bang for ya buck.
Or check one of the bat makers out on here, deffo get a nice stick for your budget.

If you're coming back after a long break, it's definitely worth visiting a shop or a bat-maker to wave something around and see if it suits.
@jonny77 - whereabouts are you based?
-
Having been a Puma FKW in the past, the quality of the gear is generally pretty good and decent value.
I would however agree with the sentiments of others and look around as you'll find better options for the same price or cheaper
-
Yep, one of the sponsors or retailers on here will sort you right out with exactly what you want.
-
Thanks again for the advice. I'm in Leeds and I definitely like to see the bat, so have been to a few shops to get an idea. I've always had a light bat/pick up, as just can't can't use a heavy bat. Some of the Gray Nic ones from Vitas looked nice yesterday, but without being there to see them in the flesh its difficult to say.

Hi
I ordered bat from RNS Larson based in India and bat arrived in UK in 6 days.
Now what I say about bat it is one hell of a bat. After 30 mins of knocking ball flying off like a rocket.
I will recommend buying one off them as bats are great value for money and you will save money to buy more stuff.
Amazing ping and balanced n light pick up despite being full back.
Any chance you work for RNS.... 6 days is quicker than a uk hand made bat.....being posted in the same country...
-
RNS Larson ? Hmmm, stay away from them as generally they have mixed reviews .. since you are in UK, go UK route ...B3 gets my vote. If you want to import from India, Robinson would be much better bet than RNS since Surinder custom service is second to none .

Well I don't work for any brand. I gave my opinion and review based on my experience.
Bat was delivered to me in 6 days not made. It was already made and I chose one out of batch.

I agree that communication with RNS wasn't good. I had limited budget so I went with RNS as the guy offered me good price. I contacted RS as well but by the time they replied I had bought other bat. RS guy was more sensible and polite while replying.
My review about RNS bat is based on bat I received. It was cheap but performing great. it's grade 3 or butterfly as some call but performance is awesome.

Thanks for the advice on the Vitas sale fellas. Picked up a Focus bat, which looks a bargain, so looking forward to getting it. Picked up some unused H4L gloves on eBay cheap and a few other bits too so nearly there.

On another note, apart from the safety aspect is there any other benefit of the 2 bar grill on the Masuri helmets? Does it widen the viewing area at all?
-
No difference just pushes the ball up and into the visor

The theory is that the top two bars line up in your eyeline so effectively you don't see the top one, widening the view. Don't know how much difference it actually makes though as haven't worn one.
-
so does it offer a better viewing area than the standard grill, or just the same but with supposed better protection?

How about a trip down to Nottingham and see bats being made and get a better understanding of what you are after? Worth the hour or so's travel!
We also have some bundle deals available - https://b3cricket.com/cricket-gear/buy-cricket-bundle-deals/adult-cricket-bundle-deal/

Good review Ajay. Looks like a nice shape, and very good for a G3.

Thank you @GoodLeave . i was bit nervous but video came along nice i think.
When i asked the guy for bat i mentioned to him that i am not bothered about the look but performance is what i am after. He offered me this bat off their facebook page.
I took the plunge due to it was not expensive at all and now i am very happy with it. I haven't used it in nets or match yet but optimistic that it will perform well due to its current response.
