Title: Hunts County Mettle
Post by: t2ylo on October 14, 2017, 04:55:19 PM
I’ve always loved these bats and over the years made countless runs with the ones I used.

I never got a duffer, they lasted really well and always came ready to play.

So recently I’ve been on the look out for one at 2.9 for old times sake & a bit of fun.

I found one (new) with some signs of clumsy storage and the stickers were a bit dog eared.

I cleaned it up & added some genuine Insignia stickers

Three key learns

1) County were really helpful and easy to do business with when it came to replacement stickers
2) I’m totally convinced that Hunts County remain one of the best kept secrets in cricket (not on here) because they are really not fashionable but make really awesome quality bats
3) The Mettle was ahead of its time with profile almost identical to my Spartan and big whilst staying light 15 years ago

(I’ve also got a Steelback that’s impressing me as I tidy it up)

I love the retro Hunts County stickers. I have Insignia stickers on my custom bat from them

Quite a low middle. Does it pick up bottom heavy?

I’m pretty biased because I used one from about 2000-2008 and it’s like pulling on your favourite jumper - it just feels right.

I’m going to give it a blast in the nets this evening but picks up really well and has a lovely balance.

These are the bats I’m taking to nets later - helps see the profile

It doesn't mean it's not a good bat, of course; but won't a Mettle have been made in India?

No mate I don’t take best bats to nets - I’m superstitious
So MRF & RS custom stay tucked away in best kit bag
(I can’t be alone in that - I hope)

If many of us adopted this approach, I'm sure our 'best bats' would last us about thirty years.  ;)

I smashed the toe out of my favourite bat against big sons bowling and I’m a tapper, that plays havoc with the toe
And it’s an excuse to have a play with various bats - but when they are knocked in and match ready they go and live in the “proper” kit.
Yes typing it made me realise I may have an issue ;-)

I sometimes wish I hadn't taken the stickers off my Insignia.

Not guaranteed to be, but fairly likely.

I try to preserve my match bats as I feel my match bat is game ready, why risk wear and tear in nets
