So a big public school near where I live has opened an amazing state if the art cricket school.
So I manfully took up the challenge of trying it out for the forum.
To help I took my 7 year old son...
There are a few pictures but without photobucket I am failing!

Is this the one in Surrey?

Right, so it is half term and there is no one using the new indoor school at the moment, so I took the opportunity to try out the facilities.
More details here:

At the school there is pitch vision, a Merlin machine and multiple other bowling machines as well as all the other facilities you would need at an indoor school.
We had a really good session with a coach who helped me and my son.
I worked on front foot, spin and the hook shot in a session that lasted over an hour and a half.
My son just tried to go after Merlin. It was a comical sight!
Reasonable to say I took a few hits to the body and one to the lid against the quick stuff and Merlin made me look a beginner at the start with ripping leg breaks...
Still it was great to get some pointers from a young coach who has just started out who has, I believe, absolutely the right philosophy about batting technique.
Sadly there are no videos of me this time, but I hope to go again next week and will see what I can do.

Outstanding facility, apparently 5 nets with each one replicating the playing surface of a different iconic ground around the world.
Cost the school £2.3m to build, guess it isn’t going to be cheap to hire a lane, but possible venue for next southern nets?
-
That looks amazing
Well worth the outlay if it replicates a true cricket surface
Definitely up for a forum meet there if possible
-
Looks quality! I’d be keen

Let’s sort one out before Christmas!!

Lane hire is only a tad more expensive than the oval, and easier to get to (for me anyway!) so seems like a great venue, if not for a full-blown southern net, a smaller get-together (1 or 2 nets for a couple of hours on a weekday evening anyone?) this side of Xmas.

Where can I find the prices for the nets hire? Might be being stupid but I couldn't see anywhere!
Cheers

Hoooowmuuuch??!

On the prices, the facility isn't really targeting on off nets they are looking for block bookings and there are significant discounts for regulars.
You also have to accept that it is in pretty much the most affluent part of the country.

Pitch vision price is fair and up there with lords.

Would definitely be keen, looks amazing!

In theory I shall be giving them a bit of a run out on Friday, at the invitation of the Stig and a couple of his friends.
I'll give you the viewpoint of a 'proppa' batsman after I have played and missed at a few!

Heyyy! Check me out! Everything’s going in vaguely the right direction!!

Lovely looking stick.

Really fun session this morning.
Fattus was working on head position and shape through the shot, while I was working on playing off the back foot from both slow and quick bowling.
Merlin is lots of fun to face and a real challenge.
I should say the two coaches are brilliant, Keith Medlycott is pretty well known but the number two Simon Sweeney is also brilliant.
Also I can get 25% off the prices from now until Christmas if people want a small meet.
-
Looks a great set up- do they have the trueman machine?
-
Great place - although with what they've spent on it, it should be! Spacious, well-lit and it even smells new!
Coach Simon was excellent, kept things really simple (which normally is best for me!) and focused on small adjustments.
Merlin is a right larf! I had it set on some reasonably tweaky off-spinners on a bit of a tricky length, and soon worked out that I only had a couple of shot options. One was the doughty block, and the other was to skip down the track and batter him over the top, which I managed with mixed success - lets just say that long-on was kept fairly busy.
I put the sweep away after the first one I tried, I top-edged miles in the air and it came down and landed on top of my lid!
Such fun!

The groans from Brucie on the Merlin were pretty funny from the adjacent net.
No TrueMan yet, although they are looking into it.
It was great to get some really high quality practicing in and to learn a bit.
