Title: Online Stockist softs - a pleasant surprise
Post by: WalkingWicket37 on October 26, 2017, 07:59:49 PM
Evening all

We've all seen these posts a million times before, so I'll keep this very brief.

I ordered some plain OLS softs for a teammate, so thought I'd share a few pictures and a quick review while they're in my possession.

The gloves

£22 a pair (reduced to £19.25 with multi-buy discount)

Now with flashes of silver instead of all white, and they look much better for it.

The velcro strap and palms are rather thin, but this means they fit pretty well.
The protection, while not quite up there with true top-end gloves, is very good for the price.

The pads

£28 a pair

Completely white and a lot of fabric, so likely to look dirty fairly quickly.

The straps are padded and fairly short, so they shouldn't overhang when fastened (unless you have really thin legs!)
They seem to fit nicely and wrap around your leg fairly well from trying them on quickly.

These aren't light weighing in at 965 grams per pad, but they're 7 canes and the protection appears to be pretty good on initial inspection.

The verdict
From placing my order to receipt of my parcel took 19 days, and I had to chase twice.
Ordering from OLS always carries risks, and I was well aware of this when I placed my order.

Had this not been a favour for a mate, would I have ordered these? Probably not

Was the service good? It was slow. The products I ordered did arrive though so it wasn't a bad one either

Would I recommend these softs? If you're in India yes. If you're elsewhere the shipping cost will negate any sayings you've made. I'd say you're better off ordering from someone in the same country as you are. On here we're spoiled for choice with any of the forum sponsors providing a better option.

Thanks for the candid review. For us, "dodgy" service and shipping mistakes just compound the cost (shipping and back) and make the whole venture worthless.

In the end, nothing is free and you somewhat get what you pay for. I paid a lot for my Newbery gloves but they are just sublime!

For the cost of shipping compared to the value of goods, it sometimes works out cheaper to just cut your losses and buy elsewhere if there is a mistake. When that's the case it truly is a false economy.

It's probably best to remove the risk all together in all honesty!

I agree. Headache and wasted time is just not worth it!

How are they in terms of sizing? True to size or a bit small?

My order of two pairs of these gloves has just arrived. Have to say I'm very impressed with the quality for the price and particularly impressed with the service they've provided.

Ordered the gloves on the 17th, email on the 18th to confirm my order was received, gloves dispatched on the 20th and were waiting for me when I got home today. Definitely a thumbs up from me for OLS softs.

How did you order these? Via email?

I contacted them via whatsapp and after the initial greeting, there was no response from them. I just moved on to another vendor.

Ordered through their website, all seemed pretty user friendly to me. Dropped them a few emails, got responses back pretty quickly.

Yeah I would assume so, partly why I was willing to give them a go. That and the absurdly cheap prices.

^ I remember some thing similar which is why I am hesitant to buy from cheaper priced vendors. Hassle, in the long run, costs more.

Can only speak to my own experience with them which was excellent. Obviously might not be the same for everyone.

I would rate them as worth a try, even for bats. There was some issue with their WhatsApp which meant they lost my order and I reordered via another WhatsApp account. All very odd, but it did work out fine in the end.

The other supplier with amazing prices is Crown Cricket. Does anyone have good or bad exoeriences with them?

Ordered loads from Crown Cricketer, never had any issues at all. If you follow their social media their shop looks amazing!

Yes they do look amazing too. Has anyone had any serious kit from these two suppliers, e.g. bats, which turned out not to be genuine?

The stories I've heard have been more along the lines of bats being very delayed, minor damage or not being the requested weight.

I went to then for a set of navy unbranded pads as it was before the like of GN and G&M has released a coloured range. Even with the postage, they were a good deal cheaper than buying pads in the UK and no issues at all.  Once you are paying the postage for buying one large item, other items become very cheap
