Indoor cricket on a Thursday afternoon for old chaps like me, can't wait!!!! I just hope my knee holds up, however I was told that no one does any running.
-
Did you say no running??
Like that
-
@Northern monkey shame your to young!!!
-
Only 4 months to go!!!
-
sign him up
-
Had a chat with the guy who is running the indoor cricket. It is with a soft ball, so no pads, gloves or box. Quite looking forward to it.
-
Just got home from my first 50+ indoor match. It was single wicket, seven overs each (one over per-outfield player). the top score was 128 from the first batsman, I came third with 78, but was catch behind twice and stumped 3 times, which was minus 8 runs per dismissal. Must admit I batted like an idiot, just tried to slog everything, hence the stumpings. can't wait for next week

Slogger!!
Good crack?
What ages were the blokes?
Did you know any ?
Can I play when I'm old enough?
-
And can I play if I can get away from work!!!?

You are making this sound like walking football!

aged from 50 to 60, two are very good, some are ok, some are poor. The bowling was very similar to playing div 8, 9, 10 OCA. lots of pies, but the soft ball holds up a bit so nothing really comes on to the bat.
open to anyone over 50 ish, I am sure they will take 48 or 49 year olds.
Yes it is the cricket equivalent of walking football, and I was asked if I wanted to join them on Mondays to play Walking football. sounds easy doesn't it? but I ended up putting my back out batting, and I REALLY struggling now.
-
You've just teased us with the full experience and now you're saying it's too brutal??
I'll go next week if I'm not in a different time zone, I was in sarfampton today
Walking football?? Heard it all now,,, then again, I suppose I play walking cricket
-
I play league walking football it's fast paced plenty of movement and good fun.

old mans cricket today. two teams 4 a side. each side gets a 8 over innings split in two, with each pair of batsmen get 4 overs. we lost twice by 8 runs.
-
Forget the Ashes, the big match today was at Abingdon Leisure Centre, with the weekly 50+ indoor cricket competition. Today it was four a-side, with pairs of batsmen facing four overs (one from each player). A total of 8 overs per side.
For the first time I finally won a game. Batted first against what was considered the better team, we scored 108 from our 8 overs, with me contributing 46 not out, Then we bowled them out for 36 which included the second pair scoring -4 from their 4 overs.
The second match I was transferred to the opposition for a 4 over match (each pair facing 2 overs), I slogged 32 off the last over.
Two games two wins.....Got to love old mans cricket.....Maybe Sky might broadcast it up against the ashes.

Lacking in numbers today. two teams of three. one team bats for 6 overs, each player on the fielding side bowls two overs. Single wicket batting, with each batsman faces two overs.
First game we bowled first. they got 111, we manage a very poor 82. I batted like an idiot, run out second ball, then bowled by a slower ball and finally caught off the wall. manage a miserable 28.
Second game was a tie both teams scoring 112. We batted first, I got a decent 54 from my two overs (as you can imagine it is easy to score runs). Bit of a conversational finish to the game, with them needing 4 to win from the last ball. their batsman skied the ball behind him, which in my sides opinion clearly hit the roof and therefor was a dead ball (and no runs scored), they argued that it passed through the beam and hit the back wall for one run plus two for the RUN, 3 score and game drawn.
I did have an "Old man fielding moment". Running to my left I picked up the ball in my right hand, threw the ball in for a run out, then staggered off balance backwards 5 yards into the wall at full speed. Hit the wall hard with my hip and took all the skin off my left elbow on the breeze block wall. Bet it was funny to watch.

@jblowe - have you trimmed that beard? 😲

@jblowe - have you trimmed that beard? 😲
@FattusCattus , Ah well, I had a drink or two and got it into my head that I was beginning to look more like a tramp than a 19th Century European Monarch. So on a mad whim I got out the Dog's clippers and set about giving my beard a light trim. It looks a lot easier than it actually is. After a slight/major errors within 5 minutes I was beardless. Next day I put my back out, turned my ankle and came down with a cold, and was beginning to know how Samson felt. Now working hard on growing it back.
On the plus side my mother-in-law didn't recognise me, and then said "Oh your face is thinner, have you been on a diet".

How longs the indoor old fogie cricket last for?
I finish for xmas next Friday, so might be able to show my face
-
@Northern monkey not sure when we stop. The organiser has just quit so it is up in the air at the moment. I would expect it will continue up to Christmas. 2 o'clock at the White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre Abingdon. only £3
-
Ah that's a bit crap, he's quit!
Has it been advertised to the teams, clubs etc to try and promote it,,,I'd not heard about it until you mentioned it.
I know there loads of older players at wootton for instance.
Unless it's just the time of day?
-
it was on the OCA website. I would expect most people are at work at 2.00.
If the OCA send a message to every OCA club, it still does not get pass on to the clubs players. just got an email saying the funding will end at xmas. so there might not be any next year

Today's over 50's big match saw only 7 players turn up. Two matches of Three a side, in the first match I kept wicket for both sides. Each side batted as a single wicket, facing three overs (one from each of the opposition)
Batting first was Peter, Micheal and Malcolm, who scored a respectable 108 in their nine overs. Batting second the team of Steve, Jim and John (on form the stronger of the two sides) scored the runs easily with 9 ball still remaining. Behind the stumps I managed 2 dropped catches, loads of byes as well as three catches and a stumping.
Second game I joined Peter and Malcolm playing against Micheal, Steve and John (Jim keeping wicket). Each batsman faced 3, 3 ball overs (one from each of the opposition). My side bowled first and restricted them to 49. I opened the batting and scored 28, which included -8 for being stumped, Malcolm scored 21 from in his innings which left Peter needing to score one from his 9 balls, which he did second ball. BIG WIN!!!!
Good news is that is seems to be carrying on next year.
-
Jealous you have this. Looks like a lot of fun all round.
Every time I see the header though I think, 'oh there's a 50+ up for sale'. I think I've spent too long on this forum.
-
Wished we had it in Worcester
-
it was part of an ECB out reach scheme to get more people over 50 playing cricket. Might be worth contacting them and see if they can introduce it in your area
-
Yes it is that time again. With only two more weeks before Christmas we had 7 turn up. Batting i did not really get going, and was run out off the last ball.
Did get a bit heated after I bowled Malcolm with a beamer, which hit the top of leg stump. We were told it was a no ball and after a bit of a too -do I had to bowl it again. Bowled another beamer for a no ball and 3 runs

@jblowe - Your Majesty, do you use a particularly light bat for this or just a normal one?
-
We are using my old Blueroom (that split and Tom Line fixed) and My Chase, both are under 2.6 now.
