he-man logo's aren't they? maybe a little cynical at this hour but perhaps someone punting their brand??
looks like another imported soft goods brand with a willow/bat from somewhere expertly crafed by elf's from the finest wood ever to have fallen in any wood ever? Apologies if if wrong simply my opinion after a few sherbets I'm probably totally wrong.

Bats made by Gary Sandford, who makes Choice Willow bats. If im correct the fella who runs 'Vulcan' e-mailed myself and Matt at H4L enquiring about having bats made for him. Pad design look qual though...

Yeh not too bad mate stuck to cider yesterday so no mixing it = less of a hangover! lol random post i know but thats what sprung to mind at the time. Seems like alot of sticker down the rear of the bat!

Yeh pads look similar to the puma ones done a while back IMO. £200 prob about the going rate for a custom bat but "solitaire" are 50% cheaper than that which is always the problem for bat companies trying to compete with the £100 price tag i think.

Mel, thats correct Gary did teach me to make bats. I think i repaired a bat for Dean, i think i made one im not sure. He had his own shape that he designed so was a pretty custom thing which made a change. Only met him once and spoke to him on e-mail.

this is gathering momentum all i need to do know is learn to make bats

One this topic i have some spare time at nights i am not saying i a part time anything is there any courses woodwork wise if anybody did want to make bats?????.

I know this sounds like i want to make bats i was just wondering if there was a further education course or equfilante(spelling) course somebody could do might be of interest to some on here???

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere couldn't find it .

Title: Re: vulcan cricket bats

I think woodworking is something that you can teach yourself.

I made my first bat at the age of 14. I have a grandad who has had 35 years experience in the woodworking field, and he was brilliant. I would use the drawknife and if i was having trouble, he would show me how to do it better and leave me to it. If I remember correctly, he just stood there and watched me make it.

I am rabbling on here, but the reason is that I learnt how to use the basic tools from simply taking it slowly and not trying to be the next julian millichamp by taking huge amounts of wood off in one go!

My recommendation is buy a kashmir cleft off someone (CJI cricket do them for around £15 last time I checked) and if you can shape that bat, then you will find it easier when you use English willow. If you are confident enough to make a bat from english willow, then do the same as you did on the kashmir (taking your time, only removing small bits of willow at a time), because one small slip and you could completely ruin a cleft.

I hope this helps.

cheers mate a great in site into bat making to be fair i would need a very novice stint at some kind of education i cant put shelfs up like i said surely they must been some kind of course into it or a market to make one
Title: Re: vulcan cricket bats
Post by: hit4six on February 09, 2010, 09:02:49 PM
I am not bat maker, I am far from it. I can shape a bat to get a nice concave shape and I have made a couple of nice bats in my time, but I dont call myself a bat maker by any stretch of the imagination. :)

I am sure there is some sort of evening course you could attend. I know there is classes at my college which I attend that are introductions to woodworking/carpentry which would be interesting. (I have introductions to glass making here at Bournemouth, very tempted to attend that class, but thats another topic lol). Have you had a look around your local area for evening classes. Thats all I could recommend I guess.

Admittedly, the classes will be basic, however, it could be a bit of experience getting yourself used to working with wood?

sorry to drag this back up, but if you go onto the Vulcan Cricket you can see thier new gear.

Gloves have genuine pittards and look great, and only £40!

Pads also a steal at £55 IMO, the kit lokos nice and custom bats for £200 is a bonus :)

You seem no nearer to eventually deciding which brand you're going to buy all this gear from.

There is no better deal out their at the mo than the camo Newbery SPS softs on ebay - Gloves for 30, pads for 40. Fill your boots with whatever combination you so desire and then give the rest to Mike/Tom and you'll have bats and helmets in return.

It's just getting a bit irritating.

I do not understand how this is a matter to the forum, You seem to post and try to offer prices on most things, however it seems to waste people's time,

You seem to be constantly sending messages for sponsorship, I hope for your own sake that you do purchase a kit from someone on here and not waste somebody's time.
