I have been a big fan of the few atomics that I’ve seen on here and when the email for an extra 20% off in the GCCC email came through I thought I’d take a look.
SH Atomic 1400 - 580aud or 340GBP
SM Atomic 1400 - 236aud or 136GBP
On further checking the only difference between a SM and a SH is 1cm blade length???
How is 1cm worth 200gbp??? Would anybody actually notice the difference between SM & SH if they were given two blank bats to net with on two different occasions but not phisically compare the two??

Is there a coupon or just 20% on all items?

Thats what she said.

Are the widths still the same?

If you are of average height, I think SM bats are a very viable option. Most Ive compared just have a fractionally shorter handle and the blade, from what I could tell, looked very close to a standard size. Even if it was a few mm less in blade width, would most even notice?
They are usually several hundred dollars less. I bought a cracking SM bat for T20s for 250aud a few weeks back.

SM bats are slightly longer than Harrow but tend to be substantially lighter than SH. As pointed out here they rarely get over 2.6 in weigh. Sometimes the blade can be slightly narrower (very slightly) than a SH but that's only sometimes. SM bats are very common in Australia (not sure why) but less common imported into the UK. But I think there is a trend going on right now to make shorter bladed SH bats. GN Velocity Players Choice and Pro Performance being two examples.

Thats what she said.
It’s not the first cm they want, it’s the last cm

The Atomic 1400 I had weighed 2,8 , was standard SH length but was 105mm instead of the normal 108mm.
Someone got lucky on ebay with that one.

I have purchased the SM size bats from 3 different off the shelf brands and found that all of them were substantially thinner than standard SH bats. Yes, they were lighter and slightly shorter than the standard SH but the compromise in volume was way too much for me. I ended up returning all the 3 and got them replaced with SH bats.
It could be different if the bat is custom made to the specifications.

They are kids bats designed for 13-14 yo children.

Cant get on with slightly shorter width of S/ M bats For season 2018 going to use full High middle S/H GN lite originally 2.8 1/2 but cut 1CM of the bottom of the bat its now 2lb 6 1/2

I'm very confident also that unless you measure the length of the handle you will never ever notice 1cm missing at all

yeah I can understand the longer handle...but unless you actually have hand on top of the handle when you grip the bat 1cm will never be noticed..imo

I hold bats right at the top of the handle, but when I had a go with Simon's SM Kookaburra the thing is struggled most with was the fact it weighed the same as a toothpick

just a light bat or you think it was due to 1cm from the handle??
-

I think the fact it was 8oz lighter than I normally use was more of an issue than 1cm off the handle

Ah I see hahaha

I only came in here to see if someone had wrote that.

That's my experience as well for custom made short bats - I have written about it in the past - which is why I switched to size SH bats. I tried it with different bat makers and only Laver got the balance right for a size-6 bat weighing 3.0 pounds. I was told that it was an exceptional piece of willow (could be a Signature that was cut down).

Over the past few month I have a few conversation about purchasing a SM bat (for my lad), only really because they are so cheap compared to a standard short handled bat. I contacted a retailer in oz who sell an xxx8 SM for a fraction of the price of a standard SH xxx10. Was told that the blade widths are 105mm and the quality of the willow was not as good as the Standard SM. They also only went up to 2.6. In the end it was cheaper for me to buy a 2.10 xp70 and chop 15mm off the bottom. So he has now got a SMs full width 2.9.
Why do the manufacturers think a SM would want a child's bat. Surly they should produce full width super short blades as a SMs bat.
