Title: B&S Serbian willow
Post by: ajerz on December 28, 2017, 04:46:04 PM
Baisicllay saw a thread talking about Serbian willow earlier in the forum and curiosity got the better of me. I messaged Gary on Instagram, inquiring if he had any clefts left. Luckily enough there were 2 still available. The customer service was top notch and got it made to the specs requested. Literally messaged on the Monday and had the bat by Friday. Gary was extremely helpful and I would reccomend him to friends.

Currently I'm still knocking the bat in after giving it 2 coats of oil. In terms of profile the bat is massive, (certainly the biggest ive ever owned as im not one for big edges all i usually require is a full profile)40mm edges and a spine of 61mm at 2.11 weight. Its slightly heavier than what I normally use but it's defo something I can get used to. I have a TK lam which I used for comparison reasons and I from the initial response, the ping is very good(bear in mind this has bearly been knocked in)  this might be something to do with the soft pressing as I've found it easy to make indentations with the mallet. But from 1st impressions really pleased with this purchase and can't wait to take it in the nets.

Also I forgot to mention it had 23 grains :o absolute  beautiful piece!

Correct me if i am wrong , Serbian willow should be super light compared to English willow? 40 mm edge & 61 mm spine at 2-11 sounds like a standard weight to me.

Similar conditions than the the UK. If anything it can get even colder in Serbia so therefore the willow should be heavier.

All 15 Clefts I have had did have a lot of redwood in them which generally should mean heavier Clefts and as far as I know Serbian Willow is not lighter than English Willow

It might be sound standard for the weight but again you will need to bear in mind that the profile is completely full with zero concaving which with those specs I think is pretty impressive. I'll put some pics up tomorrow :)

Most of the Serbian willow isn’t particularly any lighter than your standard English clefts, however due to the quantities available there’s naturally more low density kicking about at the moment whilst demand is relatively low (my 2.10 45mm edge would agree!). The main attraction for batmakers I’ve been told is due to the age of the willow being cultivated the grain structures are simply stunning on some of the clefts.

I’m going to be offering Serbian willow for sale as an option shortly, it’ll only be available through CBF initially but I’ll post about this shortly.

I have a 2lb 7oz serbian willow with 43mm edges. Matt at Hunts did say it was a pretty special lightweight cleft.

Used one for a fair few sessions in the nets now, no issues whatsoever on durability and the performance is no different :)

Anyone know if hunts/b&s/anyone else has any of these left, seems as good an excuse as any for a new bat!

@WalkingWicket37 if you click on the photobucket window it should open a new tab to the actual pictures, what do you use to upload pics?

I've tried clicking them on my phone and nothing happens

I use Imgur to upload, which is a pain in the (No Swearing Please) unless you use a PC

That's good! We need more options considering the outrageous prices charged more English willow bats!

@WalkingWicket37 if you hold down on the image it should open. I've tried this now on my brothers Samsung and iPhone and it seems to work if you hold down on the image. Tried uploading on imgru and your right it's a pain 😡
