Title: Twins
Post by: brokenbat on December 30, 2017, 12:38:06 AM
Been a while since I reviewed a B3 purchase. Having been used to high middled bats, I took the plunge last year, and tried out the Shan Masood shape (not reviewed here). Was pleasantly surprised with how light and fluent it felt for a low-ish swell bat. And so, after a million back and forth messages with David (thank you, @The Doctor for your patience!), I finally settled on the following bespoke design:

The 12.1 / "Finch" shape, modified with much bigger shoulders (I like thicker shoulders, and this also accommodated my unusual handle specs - extra thick oval). We "maxed out" the specs (full profile, with the bat barely squeezing through the MCC bat gauge), and with crown clefts of density 360, the finished weight came out just a shade above 2lb 8oz.

For a 'full profile' bat (technically, a 1mm scoop), with a mid-low swell, and reasonably thick toe (25mm), the pick up is excellent. Grains are just the way I like it (8-10, with no heartwood), and the ping is obviously what I have come to expect of B3 crowns.

Very, very pleased. Famous last words....but these may be the last bats I buy   :o

Pics below (if they are not the right size, would appreciate assistance).

The bespoke design:

They look good with the bigger shoulders,  2'8 is really light for a Finch think mine is an ounce or so heavier and i thought it was light. Might have to dig out my Finch for winter nets.

Very nice pair of B3 bats. 2-8 is light for this profile. Have fun using them.

Love them. Big fan of B3 may be a contender for my next shape 👌
