Title: Sidearm question
Post by: brokenbat on January 12, 2018, 01:18:13 PM
have seen a few pics of coaches etc applying tape on the backside of the sidearm cup.. have people here tried it? does it really lead to increased speed ?

seen tape, seen a bambo stick. Just makes it stiffer so it throws harder

+1 for what Mpt7 said. I've seen academy coaches tape the shaft and also the cup to make it stiffer and throw faster. First thing to do is to use the elite version as the standard version will be too whippy if you're looking for real pace. I've also seen a couple of coaches using a shorter Indian version which is easier to use with a normal bowling action. You can get them on Amazon or eBay.

Agree with the above. Be warned tho, the change in stiffness will take a bit of getting used to. Practice before throwing flat ones and bumpers at other people!

I am quite comfortable with the sidearme Elite (pink).. pretty good control etc. just seemed odd that taping the cup would be enough to create a difference - but if everyone is doing it... it must actually help.

Thought I might post here instead of starting a brand new thread. Does the sidearm pro produce swing with bowling machine balls as well? Given that used/practice balls are always in shortage, I was wondering if I can buy bowling machine balls instead and use those for throw downs.

Regular machine balls wouldn’t swing. You can get the new Swinga balls that are designed to swing. My preference is to doctor the crap out of regular cricket balls - they’ll never stop swinging.

I use the pink sidearm too. I use it however once I've bowled and need a break but want to give the batters some deliveries. It took some learning time to get the hang of it. But once you know what you're doing with that thing, it works really good. Good length or short of a good length bowling really works well and the batters don't have to worry about tired bowlers shooting down wide deliveries all the time.
Now what is the taping thing you guys are talking about?
