Anyone got either or both of the GN Kronus Halestorm or Pro Performance. Birthday is come and girlfriend said a bat could be an option. Which one is better according to the forum?
I always fancied an Aussie GN but the shipping/taxes always worried me plus the fact you can't view them before buying.
Edit- yes I am aware that this is a very subjective question and that they're different style of bats.
-
If 2-12 and above weight is good for you then get a GN select extreme. It will save you money and compared to Pro Performance it is a full SH size bat. I just got one from IJC and it is fantastic.
-
I’m not a fan of GNs UK grading, I’d go Aus every time
-
Get a Australian made bat you won’t regret it they are fantastic bats and found a lot of the retailers are more than happy to help with pictures etc
-
I don’t know about Kronus version but I have Pro Performance and Halestorm from last year and personally Pro Performance has a better pick up. Middle is also better compare to Halestorm. It is all about your preference, if you don’t mind an inch shorter blade then Pro Performance is better.
-
Can only comment on the pro performance have two both have nice grains and excellent ping.
-
What weights are yours in Alan? And do you notice the size difference to a standard Short Handle?
The ones I saw were huge but rather heavy.

Any personal recommendations? @simonmay5

Mine are just over 2lb 6 ounce a little concaving and a mid balance point to me they don't feel heavy or light
Don't notice the size difference also find that the shorter blade when you are not tall is an advantage when hitting through the line of the ball.

I thought the GN pro performance's started from 2lb 10oz...

Nope just had a quick search if anyone wants a light one They are on barring ton sports website

The xxx11 range from meulemans are stunning got three on order for guys on this forum I think @Northern monkey @petehosk will agree stunning bats and would have change as well from what a uk hailstorm would cost you that’s with custom charges as well
-
Do you have a link, I can't find it.
My 2 cents is that the balance on the Halestorms I tried was awful and that ruled them out straight away. Even a 2.9 that a forum legend pulled a few strings to get something special felt awful. It just seemed like a bat designed to get a big edge at the expense of everything else and sell from the specs above all else.
The Pro Performances on the other hand felt much better balanced and more of a sensible bat, while still being huge. I'm not fussed on a regular or shorter blade as I'm not the tallest so don't notice much difference other than the bat coming through a bit easier on the shorter blade as @Seniorplayer says. Uzi and a few other places had these in 2.9 so easier to get in lighter weights too
Hi Dan
What I did was was enter pro performance bat 2lb 6 ounce and Barrington Sports 2017 came up

My mistake, I've just never heard of any at 2lb 6oz so you must've got some pretty rare clefts (that is incredibly light for a SH bat regardless of it being a shorter blade!!).
Got any pics? Would love to have a look at them both :)
-
Have two Halestorms, the 2.14 one picks up much nicer for the weight than my 2.11. Could be a mixture of handle thickness etc. I suspect the Pro Performances do indeed feel nicer due to the slightly shorter length. Kind of makes me wish I didn't dismiss it straight away due to the shorter set up! (I am only 5ft8, so would have been fine)
I think I watched an IJC video where they mentioned the Kronus doesn't pick up nearly as well as the Halestorm did... Do you tend to use heavy bats? I'd recommend that you go and check out some examples in a cricket store if possible!
-
I would recommend getting Aussie Gray Nicolas bat
-
@Seniorplayer do you mind sharing where you sourced your 2 in 2lb6 from?
From memory Vitas and Uzi had a couple of "light" ones in 2lb9/2lb10 but they were like rocking horse poo. Getting 2 in an even lighter weight is unreal luck :)
-
I have a Halestorm (Predator, not Kronus) that is 2lb 9.5 and is bloody lovely! Pick up and performance are top notch and would recommend.

Do you buy direct from Meulemans or get someone over in Aus to buy for you then they ship?
I'm just worried about it getting dinged up while being shipped here .

@Seniorplayer would love to see the 2.6 pro Performance must be a very special cleft to get one in that weight

Yes direct if I had known you wanted one could of added to the order I have put in for three xxx11 for members of this forum all going in the same box and they said they will put the value of just one bat so hopefully we don’t get stung for three bats they are extremely good value for money as well and all guaranteed to be made by Stuart Kranzbuhler
-
Only seem to have the custom model left, is that what you guys have bought?
-
A mixture of limited edition and players grade bats not a lot of difference between the grades to be honest with you all seem to ping well and be massive for the weight always worth sending them a message as always really helpful
-
A couple of people have mentioned about the shorter blade on the GN PP and that not being tall themselves means it shouldn’t be a problem. Does this mean that if you are taller (I’m 6’2) the PP would be harder to get on with?
Any taller guys on here got a shorter blade, longer handle set up they use regularly and can comment on this?

I use a Kudos or Warbird from time to time and actually seem to get on as well (sometimes better) than SH or slightly longer blade!!
-
Cheers mate, I forgot the warbird was that style. Used Bruce’s one a while back and it was great so think I will try this set up again.

Next net let me know if you need me to bring one with me?
-
Warbirds are great, you really don't notice the difference and get a bit more wood for your buck.

I've got a couple, never had any problems using them although it does change the balance so can see why some don't like it. However, isn't the problem with the Pro Performance is that it's not your usual sb/lh setup but that the whole bat is actually shorter than standard? Worth checking to make sure.

Is it really a smaller bat? All the adverts (and the GN catalogue) talk about a 1 inch shorter blade, but they say it is a SH bat so assumed the handle was longer to make up for the blade?
Surely if the whole bat was 1 inch shorter they couldn't call it SH?
@Seniorplayer can you confirm if it is indeed shorter than the usual SH?

Try and get one in under 2.12 I think you’re find it really hard

IJC just picked one for me at 2-11.7. Semi Oval thinner handle, 47 mm edge, 27 toe & it picks much lighter.
