So who will be using a box from last season or older?
If there’s one thing you need new each season it’s a box for the Crown Jewels.
But am I in the minority.
-
Not I, I’ve got a lovely new D3O one 👌
-
Got the new Ayrtek one which is great protection and built to last! Would like like to see a cooling gel pack incorporated into the inner....may end up looking like a cod piece though!
-
I have been using the same box for more than 10 years.
Writing that down makes me feel a little sick
-
New Ayrtek one for me this year.
-
Mines over 20 years old.
#oldfaithful
-
Mines over 10 years old and going strong.
Definitely sounds gross but i got one probably square on flush in the jewels last season and it did me proud!
-
Not got one, never had one, not planning to get one. Play straight.
-
Precious one was from 2011 when I started... new tomteks for this year and I’m hoping they last

You are brave!!
I’ve got a teammate who is nearly thirty and still uses his first box from playing under 11’s!! 😂😂 I’m using a lovely new Ayrtek one myself
-
In 30 odd years of playing (at times at a high level too) I've only been hit once, that way by a slow bowler so not too bad. I like to think I'm technically quite solid and I don't like the thought of having to run with one in. It's also why I don't wear a thigh pad or helmet.
-
Judging by this thread @Ayrtek Cricket is retiring on the profits from new box sales this year!! 😉
-
Modern days thigh pads are a magnet for caught short leg off inside edges, the ball seems to ballon off them like its supercharged
Older members of the forum have have used a wet towel which would surely kill the ball dead, and the thigh bone
As for batting without a box, got hit twice in the same innings and was poleaxe for a couple of overs, without one on I dread to think...
-
Can’t believe I am admitting this but my box is about 20 yrs old to me and was pinched from m school kit bag but the 3/4 times it’s been required it’s done it’s job
-
Mines probably over 20 years old only been hit a couple of times can't be bothered with a thigh pad due to the bulk used to wear one on the outside of the trousers but it was a magnet for comments from the opposition

Haha if only, sadly due to the nature of the product it isn’t particularly cheap to make compared to other more traditional guards. It has however helped with the purchase of more D3O that’ll be integrated into the air liner of the new helmets in 2018 👍
-
A bloke i play with doesn't wear a box, his reasoning being "i've never worn one before."
He got hit in the nuts once in a friendly much to the amusement of the rest of the team. Two balls later, bang, straight in the onion bag again! Still doesn't wear one!
I've bought an ayrtek one for this season as i've been using my old box for hockey (which i've been roped into playing). Haven't been hit yet! Though last year i had one belted into them during catching practice and i couldn't walk for about 2 days, it was a worse pain than breaking my ankle! Would never play without one.

What exactly is d30? Will it make your helmets heavier?
-
I have 2 I use - these are identical and were off this forum similar to the D30 ones in style. They are a few years old now.

It’s marginal but the 15-20g weight gain overall will see improved impact absorption as a result. D3O is an High impact material that has no memory and therefore can sustain multiple impacts. Best bet is to check out their website as lots of other industries and well know. Sports brands use it in a whole host of applications for protection.

Got my box when I started playing at 12, now 38 and still use the same one. Only been hit once, and that was when keeping wicket (which I’ve only done 4 times), my word that took the wind out of my sails!
-
My aero box has been holding up well for the last two years
-
I started playing cricket in 2009, so I am using that same box along jock straps.
Two weeks ago, I forgot my box home and I bought one from the store, used it and then threw it away.
-
The things discussed on here??
I use a cheap sports direct box, must be 10yrs old
And the bloke who doesn’t use one?? Seriously your mad, I’ve seen blokes carried off after being hit whilst wearing one , never mind without.
-
I’ve been using the same one for about 15 years. I recently bought a new Ayrtek D30 one but it’s much bigger than the old one and I haven’t found a way to make it feel comfortable yet

People normally claim they're too small... ;)
-
Ha no, everything fits in it just fine, but it extends much further down than the old one so it’s kinda nestled right between my inner thighs all the time. A bit awkward.

I know exactly what you mean! Used mine for indoor cricket last week and is awkward to run in

I have to have mine custom- made.
-
...by a jeweller? They have those high-powered microscopes, don't they @FattusCattus? ;)
-
I've had my shock doctor and matching JS for 4-5 years, also keep my old Kooka one in a pocked in my kitbag just in case.
-
ive been using the same box i had when i was a young boy. 30+years now.
i was either a very blessed as a child or i have a small (No Swearing Please)!

Nah - by a Fruiterer, when your plums are the size of papayas, it pays to go to the experts!

I'm not certain that I have ever bought a box. The one in my bag I have had for as long as I can remember. I'm not certain where it came from either as it's had a crack in it since I can remember as well !!
I think someone pilfered one that I had when I was in my teens, and I picked this one along the way (probably a spare in the family). It's been with me ever since, so it's at least 25 years old.

1989... and still going strong, well... gaffer taped up, etc.
