Title: Players editions
Post by: Ams4287 on February 11, 2018, 09:20:03 PM
Hi Guys

I've got a Epic Greame Smith players - which is a big thick old bat with a forward set handle (will post pics).

Thought it interesting to start a thread to see what else is out there (shape wise).

You saw my GM players in action yesterday @FattusCattus  ;)

Do sports direct do 2.6 Pro Performances too?

I once used my friend Ross Taylor GM bat. Scored 78 on 26 balls including 7 sixes. It had that trampoline effect on each and every ball. I was hitting sixes with ease.

They are one of the few genuine players shape bats on the market, pricey but well worth it.

The QDK bat I have makes similar sound to Jason Roy's bats. This may sound stupid but even on a half timed shot, the ball just keeps on accelerating. Like the ball gets wheels the further it gets from the point of impact LOL.

Is anyone aware if you can still get older GM models? Just after trying to get a Graeme smith Luna, I know it's a massive long shot but worth a try

I still don't know - it can trampoline like a Romanian gymnast, it can pleasure me in untold ways and make me a roast beef sandwich afterwards - but I still can't get my head round £600 + for a bat.

Maybe I'm just not moving with the times.

My new bat for the 2018 season is a 10 year old Salix with 25 mm edges for 62 quid off the bay

I’m bucking the trend !

They don’t publish photos as they constantly evolve. I had a customer who had to wait for his Travis Head bat as some of the specs changed and GM wanted Head to receive his bats before a member of the public did.

It’s a good reason to visit a retailer and see one for yourself, although given the price not many places hold stock (not a helpful suggestion I know!)

Yes you can currently order Malan's player edition bats. P.S. Travis Head will be using the Zelos stickers this season.

I'm told all of these are between 2.9-2.10. Travis Head models are usually 2.10/11 and above.

I used to have a Ross Taylor icon. Was a fair old weight to what I normally use (think it was 2.13 with 2 grips) but the pick up was phenomenal. Massive shoulders on the blade

its pretty much the SS / MRF-Kohli shape. but with much thicker shoulders, full 108mm width, and much better prepared (GM NOW) than any new "soft pressed" bat. tremendous bat, and given how much SS etc have jacked up their prices for top end bats, this GM is a much better buy imo.

I currently own both the de kock version and travis head also previously owned the Shane Watson which is pretty much the same as travis head one. I love both bats but the de kock one I get on with more has a flatter face more concaving which usually isn't my things but it feels right in the hands. De kock is also 2.9lb travis head is 2.1.

I don't think any SS bats, normal or pro costs more than usd 550 imo even direct from factory  :o

How heavy are the Vince bats? It looks an interesting shape.

Also, please forgive the question, but are GMs holding up better than 2-3 seasons ago. I have been away and haven't seen peformance over the last few years but the Vince is tempting.

Some nice bats @Six Sixes Cricket  I liked the Travis Head Vitas sourced a while ago.

Anyway this is the G. Smith Epic, really full profile with thick shoulders (you don't quite appreciate the size from the pics), with a forward set handle (no bow).

Had Corey Anderson playing for us last game and had a good hold of his GM bats. Honestly not that big. 35mm edges, round face, normal sized spine that went to the toe. Felt nice though. He said he had no troubles with the new bat laws, bat went through easily.

2-10, 2-11 seems like a popular bat weight with the pros these days.
