Title: Damn, she ugly! But boy does she go....
Post by: 19reading87 on February 12, 2018, 08:00:00 PM
Right then people.... question for you all!

What is the ugliest bat you have ever seen or used but it turned out to be an absolute rocket!!!!!

My reason for asking? I got hold of this thing on Saturday and I hold high hopes over time it will be a monster...

Ahh. An M&H Fugly, if I'm not mistaken.

A bold experiment. But it didn't take of. Literally.  ;)

Hope it goes like the clappers for you!

This Aldred Supreme. Fantastic performance, has 2 knots and I'm not sure there are any grains, but it goes from everywhere.

Not an M&H....

I took a visit to V Sports. I’ve been going there for nearly 17 years so Vee and Rich (the batmaker) are more like friends. They normally just let me out in the back and sort through all the stock they have. Sitting in Rich’s pile of bats he’d already made was this.... tapped a ball on it and instantly wanted it

Is it just hope or is it displaying signs of greatness already?

It needs a lot of playing in, however, tapping a new ball on it, it’s flys

Ok.

I have one ugly duckling but it used to belong to an ex-county cricketer. It weighs 2-9 and has a small sweet spot but it flies.

Other uglies I own haven't opened up despite knocking and nets. I guess the uglies get the "ugly betty" treatment and are pressed to death. :D

I think the lower grade bats sold by the bigger companies are probably presssed to death as they will be used/abused by people who don't look after their gear and not worried what balls they use.
The ones made by bespoke makers are pressed as well as all the other bats they make. This makes the, great performers at good prices.
