Many of you who have been around the forum for a while will know that I am not a traditionalist and have a week spot for anything with an unusual shape.
Instead of vintage bats, I have decided over a period of time to start a collection of the weird and the odd. So I thought we could compile a list of all the sticks we can remember, old and new, here is where I’ve got to (any pics welcome):
SS Jumbo
Scoop (all varieties)
Dynadrive
Hunts Insignia
Hunts Reflex
V12
V800
Joker / B20
GN Nemesis
Newbery TT
Newbery Excalibur
Spartan Boss +
-
How about the Symonds Tusker Grand Monarch? It was way too heavy for me...but I bought one anyway.
-
GN dual T20 that had two “middles” 1 on each side and was it the GN edge that had a handle set at and angle in the cleft. Probably two of the most out there shapes and ideas
-
GN Millenium and Phoenix?

GN xiphos had lots of funky grooves
-
Vortex too.
-
and the Viper! Didn't Mohammad Yousuf use one?
-
What was the Viper?
-
What was the GM with the funky side scoops?
-
GM Luna. Worst bat design ever. Only ever seen one and it was a total plank.
-
What was the Hunts model with the honeycomb in the back?
-
What was the Hunts model with the honeycomb in the back?
The modulus (I think)
-
Anyone else familiar with the Charlie French Odyssey?

What was the Viper?
It was a 4 Scoop!

-
GM diamond - no curves here!
Slaz v800 - cats eyes
GN sabre - someone stuck a bit of a dynadrive on the end!
-
GM Luna. Worst bat design ever. Only ever seen one and it was a total plank.
I hated the shape but used one in a few nets and found it really suited the way I play...
-
M&H S6. Has dowels put in the back.
-

Whereas I hated it when I used it but didn't mind the shape.

Had one. Pick up was odd, but it flew.

Mate at club had one, was also a plank, ended up breaking and getting binned.
This bat must have been in the range when GM were pressing all the life out of their bats as few years ago.
-
What was the Laver that looked like an actual club?
Legacy, that’s the one
-
Didn't GM do one with a big hump in the back a couple of seasons ago? Was it called the Zona????

One of the opposition batsmen had one in a match I played a few years back. The ball was absolutely racing off his bat! It was like a trampoline!!
-
what is strange/unusuakl about the V12?
-
Puma made one with holes down the back (not literal but round scoops)
-
I do recall a bat from the early 90's with holes all the way through, in order to improve it's aerodynamic qualities.

@Tom do you still have the photos and can you upload them elsewhere please?
-
Didn't Duncan Fearnley do a bit with a weird handle set up??
-
Anyone remember the model of Hunts County that had a honeycomb construction in it which was partly exposed at the back??
-
Impala...

Modulus wasn't it?

Wasn't there a Woodworm that Freddie and KP used that had chunks out of the shoulders.
-
The old original County Clipper from the 70’s and 80’s
-

Beautiful bats!
-

Have you seen the original v12s from the late 80's ?
-
All woodworms have those scalllops out of the edges near the shoulders don't they?
-

Never used one but I used to love that bat...seemed like a smart idea too. Anyone know why they stopped making it? Or why no other bat maker tried the same? Did that design become illegal?
-
Still going, albeit on a much smaller scale presumably, after they struggled money wise.
By the looks of it they still take the sides out the bats https://www.woodworm.tv/woodworm-cricket-ib-select-grade-1-cricket-bat1.aspx (https://www.woodworm.tv/woodworm-cricket-ib-select-grade-1-cricket-bat1.aspx)

That would be the stealth, nice bats actually

Wonder where these bats are made, not a bad price potentially...
-
Aren't the SportsHQ (who own woodworm) also associated with CA or someone similar? I assume they come from the same factory as their partner brand.
-
The new Woodworms are certainly finished like a CA - you can slice cheese with the edges!
-

The old V12 was a little odd, especially back then. Here's a photo, not the best but you can get the idea:

I also owned a GN 'Megapower' at one point. Such a (No Swearing Please) name, I had to cut the stickers off. The bat went like a train though.

-
Wonder if the Aldred Spectre falls in this category too?
-
I think there are loads of ridiculous names out there. The first that comes to mind is 'Kaboom'.
-
Modulus wasn't it?
They are my old bats, didn't get on with the Fusion but the modulus was a fantastic bat. It used to whistle as you swung it which caused no end of grief from keepers and slips.
Should never have passed it on ☹

Bet the pickup on that falls into one category = dog!
-
Had one. Pick up was odd, but it flew.
If you look at ebay carefully, you can find a used Pro Performance one of these for £45 in a bundle!
-
The Gray nicolls Dual T20 was one that was just plain weird to me
-
The GN with the off centre handle was also a disaster.
But you cant fault the effort into innovative that GN goes for.
-
a bat with an off centre handle....now this ive got to see!

The GN edge was the only bat you could have in left or right handed, who came up with that idea
-
GM Sigma is what happens when someone thinks we really want to see what bats look like when you allpw the intern who likes the playstation buttons ito have 20 mins on the DXM.

Not sure how many they made but presume it was mostly to show what their kit could do compared to a regular batmaker.
-
GN Megadrive was a total plank. First hand knowledge. Pretty bat but falls int the GM Luna zone.
-

All bets is suspended on this bat as the house will lose.
