Hi Folks,
I’m new to the forum so apologies if this has been posted before, has anyone made their own padding to improve protection and feel when keeping?
I find I am constantly swapping inners each season to find a balance between feel and protection. I have heard a couple keepers have used their own padding with one pair of inners to help their palms. Anyone tried this and had any success?
Cheers in advance

I don’t want your first interaction with the forum to come across as pure scorn, but why do you need extra padding? A good quality wk gloves and chamois inners should be plenty! Unless you’re keeping to 85mph, if it hurts it’s your technique that needs looking at ;)

I currently use the xrd gray nicolls inners with a set of batting inners under them and that feels perfect for me but before that I use to tape a thin layer of foam on my palm with the aid of fabric strapping and that also felt great I'm sure there's plenty more options you could use as well

As a keeper last year keeping to a couple who could reach 85 mph plus I used plastozine when I got compression pains in my hands
I sometimes think good keepers get compression injuries because they have a consistency with catching.
I find things like plastozine work because if I took a ball wrong at any speed I find it takes longer than a couple of days to heel due to the compression and I prefer in the season not to miss more than 3 days without catching balls.
It a pain to wash your inners after though but I have found it work

I use finger sleeves like these and have found them to be very helpful.

Isn't there a story of one of the old England keepers using steak as padding?

I know Rod Marsh did when keeping to Tommo and Lillee

I have a few pairs of inners made by Graham Plimmer with high density foam sewn over the knuckles palm side. I like to practice catching both with gloves and general fielding practice without. So get hotspots now and then. These completely nullify the bruising pain when keeping. I can send you his details if you wish?

When I was younger I used to get the gel pads for your heels and tape them into gloves. Definitely helped playing against the sharper chaps. If not I would use a chamois underneath then get another pair of just cotton padded gloves. Cut the fingers off to maintain dexterity and then slip them over the top. Any of these suggestions should do!

as dave said.
I used to get compression injuires because i used to catch the ball in the same place every time. Lucky for me switching to thicker inners did the job and i no longer have issues.
I now normally go for over sizes mens glove and thicker innners
