Just pondering in the gym whether the talent is there? Do we have too many kolpaks? If we had a similar number of 1st class teams to other countries could we fill them with good English players. I'll be generous, 1 overseas per team.
Would be very interesting to see who would be in and out. Feel free to split the country how you like and make suggestions.

At full strength with internationals back - yes easily! I just dashed out 6 pretty strong teams as follows. The odd romantic pick maybe, but enough players for a competitive competition even if you mixed them up regionally etc.. It's the other 12 XIs you have to pick for an 18 county tournament that are the problem!
All sides are 5 batsmen, all rounder, keeper and 4 bowlers.

Fair play, can you add anymore teams without reducing the quality?
Should we consider semi retired players (Trescothick, colly legends but even so) , just those eligible currently.
-
The problem of course is that 40% or so of those players aren't available due to international commitments, white ball contracts etc - a fair few more are at the wrong end of their careers, and you've got to come up with another 132 players from somewhere to make up the other 12 sides!
That is where your Kolkpaks and overseas come in, you have to have them to make up the numbers and have even a remotely first class standard being played.
-
So if the semi retired players are removed replace them with bell Drummond and Alex wakley

The women's team is handy

How many strong Xi’s could you make from non English qualified players who’ll be about this summer. Even if you limit it to only those playing CC.

Bowling yes - Plunkett, Coad, Gleeson, Fisher, Mahmood, Harris, Barker, Patterson, Fuller, Willey, Garton, Whittingham, Robinson, Gurney, Meaker, Weighell.
Batting, less so - TKC, DBD, Hildreth. ...you get the picture.
Don't start on the spinners and keepers

So only 2 Worcestershire players mentioned. Hard to believe for a team promoted to Div 1 last year. Mitchell - underrated opener, Cox - very good keeper/batsman, Barnard & Tongue - both good bowlers and handy batsman. If they played for Surrey they would be being mentioned as future England players.
-
Tongue has been so mentioned. Barnard I don't have much experience of.
Mitchell though has been found out in D1 before now.
