It's nearly Easter, so I've been finishing off my match bat for this season. Here's some photos - naked and unashamedly characterful! I'm pleased with the profile and the finish, it just needs grips, labels and a bit of knocking in. It's not one for the purists, probably not something that anyone would choose in a store, but it is a bat that reflects the blood, sweat and tears of the project, and a bat that will bring back happy memories as I use it. My mission was to score runs with a bat I made from a tree I felled. All being well :) this will be achieved on Sunday 6th May 2018, at home, against the mighty Battisford 2's.

I have to ask, why did you put the handle in that end of the cleft

If I'd gone the other way, my concerns were that (a) I might plane off the knot completely and (b) that if it stayed and was weak, the bat might snap in half. Now I appreciate that it might snap in half anyway, but as the knot is just below the middle and in the meat of the bat I hope that everything will hold together OK. If it goes, well, there'll be another one along in a couple of weeks!

Love the profile!!
What’s the weight and specs as is?
Love the knot and the heartwood!! Can’t beat a bat with character!!!

If only the knot was in the front, you could have named the bat scarface! :D
The profile looks lovely.Hope it goes well!!

What’s the weight?
There’s a lot of wood in that, and a lot of skill
Looks really well balanced
And regarding the looks, anyone can turn a decent cleft into a bat, but to make a cleft like that into a usable bat takes real skill
Well done👍

Cheers all, appreciate your kind words.
The bat, now with 1 grip, is just under 2.12. The edges are 35mm, spine approx 63mm (I don't have a vernier or an entirely accurate measurement method). But, inside the new regs though, for sure.
