if the blade is 33 percent shorter, how come the handle isn't 33 percent longer? or is that really obvious and i'm being stupid!

peplow, if the handle was 2cm long, and the blade 100cm (for example) reducing the blade by 50% to 50cm, would mean you would need to increase the handle by 50cm (from 2cm), which is an increase of well over 50%

the handle would be 33% longer if the handle and the blade were the same lengths originally.

yeah just realised, its due to their relative sizes :) as they aren't the same size to begin with :)
