Post by: rickjames on April 27, 2018, 07:59:58 AM
We have a schedule and some absurd ticket prices to boot. A++++ to administrators!

Ticket prices for the England games are ridiculously high IMO

Prices seem to be highest for India games (to be expected).

Yeah that's true actually!

I quite like how the tournament is split into a South/North section as it progresses.

Prices are absolutely crazy!...How can the cheapest tier for some group games be £70 and for others £16. Absolute joke of a pricing structure.

This world cup is going to played in empty grounds at least 50% of the time.

Think it is a ballot system. You have to apply to the ballot and see what you get.

We're looking at either Windies/Sri Lanka as both are Friday games in decent locations for a night out afterwards.

Other than maybe Hampshire, they’re all great locations for nights out!

Just outside the centre of Southampton, very decent night out!

Southampton has Jesters, which should definitely have the sale pitch of "So awful it's actually good."

You do have to sacrifice a pair of shoes though, once worn in jesters they can never be used anywhere else.

Seconded.
There's no way that place can be described as good under any circumstances haha

I have winkers as my local, which only had 3 stabbings at new year, a record low I think! Anywhere is good in comparison to that.

Does anybody know A) How long this Ballot is open for and B) When the draw takes place and the money is debited from your card?

When do Cricket World Cup 2019 tickets go on sale?
Cricket World Cup tickets will go on sale in three stages.

The cricket family ballot will start on Tuesday, May 8 at 10am and end on Friday, June 1 at 8pm.

Anyone can take part but you must register on the ICC site beforehand.

The family ballot is not a first come, first served ballot, so cricket fans do not need to apply on day one.

Fans who fail to obtain tickets in the family ballot will be automatically entered into July's public ballot.

Got an email this Morning. Ballot is open. Took 1 hour just wait to be in online queue and then u can submit application with ticket selection of the games you want to do. If application is approved they will charge the credit card.

Smith and warner recalled as expected. Got to feel sorry for handscomb - he’s been in fine form

Hazlewood also misses out - reckon a county might nab him for a pre-ashes stint

India’s World Cup squad: Virat Kohli (c), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik

Rayudu axed and probably ending his international career. Pant also misses out. Shanker and Rahul batting for the number 4 spot.

Poor decision to axe Handscombe tbh. Why would you want smith and S marsh both do the same job. If Carey breaks a finger before a match they’ve got no cover. Baffling

I think it's a massive gamble to not select i back up keeper (or someone who can do that job).

Does anyone know the rules regarding injury replacements for the WC?

Not as if Aussie selection has made sense for a while...

Very surprised at Pant missing out.  Few other younger batsmen that you'd have expected to be close.  Good side on the whole though.

Aussies have their aus A team in touring at the same time, so won’t be much of a risk. Warner can also keep worst case

Marsh carries on getting selected - handcombe has been in much better form over the last year

looks good team. Not surprised with pants absence. Pant got lot to learn yet before becoming permanent keeper and part of team India. He lacks maturity and not reliable at all. Given his wicket away easily so many times even in IPL.Shankar showed maturity and sense of responsibility even he played very few games and a bowling option too

England squad. No surprises really apart from Denly?

No Dawson either, his name was banded around a few times on the ESPN Switch Hit podcast and Wisden Weekly Podcast as a likely pick, I guess Denly has taken his place.

Except it might not be the squad....... and i quote from Ed Smith.....

“In line with ICC regulations, we have to name a preliminary squad of 15 for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup before April 23. However, all 17 players named in the Royal London ODIs against Pakistan can stake a claim to be in the final 15-man squad, finalised at the end of that series.

“The selection panel has been impressed with Jofra Archer’s performances in domestic and franchise cricket. He is a very talented and exciting cricketer."

They are sitting on the fence hugely, if Archer performs against Pakistan then he gets selected in the final 15.

I'd put money on Archer being in the final squad. Not reading too much into this preliminary announcement.

West Indies leave it to the last minute to announce their squad

Pollard misses out which is slightly surprising but they have enough all rounders

Narine not interested in playing for the windies - probably afraid of getting called for chucking. Spin department looks weak

Personally think pollard isn’t consistent enough, basically a less reliable Russell and pollard hardly bowls anymore.

Spin and generally the bowling attack looks weak. Think they’ll just try and blast people out with their batting.

I rate Narine as a bolwer! And he can certainly bat too. If I were WI selectors, I would be trying everything I know to get him keen to play.
WI are very capable of surprising most teams on the day though.
But India look particularly strong (alongside England) although India still need to prove their quality away from home.
But just hope that England keep their "one bad game" in the group stages or after the World Cup!! And not in the knockout stages!!  :(

And would be surprised if England don't choose the following final 15....

Top 6 bats + reserve:
Roy
Bairstow
Root
Morgs
Buttler
Stokes
Vince

Spin department:
Ali
Rashid
Denly

Pacemen:
Wood
Willie
Woakes
Archer
T. Curran

Would surely pick Archer over Plunkett unless Archer has a nightmare couple of games vs Ireland and Pakistan!
Jordan would need to have 2 stunning games in the warm ups to jump up the pecking order!
Nice position to be in!!!

The starting XI will be interesting!  ;)
