My dad is a bit worried about me getting hit on the head, so he wants me to get a new helmet (currently use a slazenger junior one -Sports Direct
:(. I was wondering what properties you go for for the best protection (if you dont want your head to hurt):
Better padding in the lid
or
a better grill
I dont have a big budget either, around £40 (lid+Grill).

Kavo
my advice would be to purchase the one that fits you best as this will prevent injury better rather than looking for the most padded etc. All helmets grills will be made of similar materials but in different designs/shapes.
-
I think the best thing to do is to try on before you buy. I say this because I tried on a kookaburra helmet today, and it hurt to wear it as the inside shape was rock solid with no added protection. I would recommend going to a shop if possible.
-
Indeed don't be drawn in by a brand name buy the one that feels most comfortable when wearing it as it's likely to keep u happier then when batting. Don't be afraid to ask for a discount either on store as well as shops down here offer upto 10% off for club players

You can get a Masuri for £45 posted from Pinch - Hitter

haha seen that before! hamps why diden't you reply to my PM's about the batting shorts and grip?
-
I have had my Masuri over 3 years now and I love it, you can't go wrong with it. Got hit for the first time Wednesday, albeit only on the grill. But it wasn't pushed back into my face, which is always good!
-
ayrtek will fit, i didnt think mine did to start off with as i have a meat head :D but thats because i was used to a masuri, getting used to it bit more now!
-
i love masuri's - got a new one in for this year , but so so tempted to sell my masuri and get an ayrtek helmet !
-
do it pal, you wont regret it!
-
i would buy an ayrtek but there is 1 thing aint sure about !!!!
the gap between the grill it looks very very wide ball could fit threw it ?
-
This is something we have actually gone the other way on as we designed the grill that used in 2009 to leave either a 45mm gap for junior sized balls or 55mm for adult sized balls in accordance with BS 7928:1998 guidelines. People commented that they wanted bigger gaps to be viable so the 2010 grill allows bigger gaps between the grill and peak of upto 70mm .
This setting will allow a ball to fit through but the 45/55mm setting and in between can also be applied should the wearer of the helmet desire those settings.
Hope that makes sense?!
-
makes sense to me you can personalise it to what you want arghhh all this makes me want mine now but will have to wait
-
Tom maybe iam thick as my bats but is there any pictures of this sorry for being a numpty
-
Basically you can adjust the grill setting like any other helmet to have any gap you want from huge gaps that will let the ball through or tiny gap that won't let a golf ball through like Jimmy Anderson
-
