A very good start by Somerset beating Surrey by 8 wickets.

He batted ridiculously well, some of the cleanest striking I've seen in a long while, can't remember him giving a chance either

Don't need Virat Kohli when you've got academy graduate Will Jacks. Typical Surrey.

Why do the young English players not get the same hype as say for example India's  young players? Ollie Pope, Harry Brooks and Will Jacks slip under the radar, whereas chaps like Pant, Shaw and Gill are branded as superstars...

Oh I don't know maybe because they're plastered allover the IPL and Sky sports

Also I just want to point out I'm not saying the Indian chaps I mentioned aren't good, it's just sky sports should be building up the quality young English boys rather than overseas players

In fairness, Jacks has only played 3 times for Surrey, only one of which was on TV, and when you look at the other players in that side you can see why he isn't spoken about as much. That said, he has score quite a few runs for the England U19s iirc, as has Brook. Maybe it just shows that not everyone pays much attention to the U19 stuff. Pope hardly played for the U19s so that might show it's not hugely important as a gauge of how good a young player really is. I'd definitely agree with the lack of exposure though, all these guys in the IPL getting hyped up because people are actually seeing them play on a big stage, which just doesn't happen over here as very little seems to be on TV or spoken about

Worcester trying to throw this away.

Moenn Ali’s innings was amazing, Ross whiteley destructive too. But neither batted for the game and ended up throwing there wicket away.

Worcester now 8 down and struggling for last 14 runs. Could be anyone’s game!

What a way to lose a game.

With 5 needed and 1 wicket left. It’s edged down to barker at third man.......

Who fell over and it rolled passed him for 4.

Henry Brookes timed at close to 90mph during the game last night, 18 year old kid sounds a bit of a prospect! From the limited footage looks like a decent upright action and moves the ball, maybe one to watch. Noone tell Vaughan.

very!! deserves his lions place and to skipper them i think his captaincy this season (his first) has been excellent except batting tom moores so high in white ball cricket

Some of that. Not helped by being forced to play a virtual second XI either!

York’s may have got a score! Balance with 91

I think we did pretty well in the circumstances, but my suspicion is that someone will go big against an inexperienced attack.  I don't understand why the ECB insists on devaluing what should be showpiece domestic games like this.

On this occasion yes, though it's far from over.  And I apologize if this sounds like a Yorkshire mafia rant...

But...

It's ridiculous that we're missing FIVE players to England duty for a major knockout game (and if Jake Ball could be released, why could ours not?). Worse that Pujara has left for India duty, Williamson is here to replace him but cannot play because he didn't play the group stages (though Cook is allowed...go figure...)

Not sure you can really compare making the backup for the backup bowler in the squad available to making 5 players who played yesterday and are likely to play the entire series available.

Well, Ball has played more days of cricket this season than Willey, Rashid and Plunkett combined, so that's not a load of crap at all... 😁

Circumstances like today, I believe it should be the players choice to play or not. Hazard a guess at least 4 out of the 5 yorkies would have wanted to play. The organisation is wrong to start with and shouldn't ever be in this situation anyway.

On a positive note well done to our 2nd team today, great result.

This James Vince lad looks a decent player, how does he not get into England's white ball teams?

The way he's dominated the Yorkshire bowling thus far, he'd probably be a decent middle order player in the Test side, too! ;)

Superb knock.

But...

...in a major semi final, have Bairstow, Root, Willey, Rashid and Plunkett really played so much cricket recently that the competition should be devalued by their absence?

It would be great for all the England players to play but there is a game tomorrow and they played Saturday, they were never going to play today (or Mo for Worcester, or Billings for Kent yesterday).

1. Why not?  Its a one off, and none of them have played much recently.
2. If you're the ECB and you're taking that approach, why would you not schedule the matches better?

Though right now, I'd settle for umpires who had a clue what they were doing, because Lyth just got an absolute stinker.

I am not saying that the semi-finals (and whole tournament for that matter) couldn't have been scheduled so that the England players could have been involved. Purely just that once the semis were on the days they are there is no way they can play 3 games in 4 days (Saturday, Sunday or Monday, and Tuesday). Especially when you factor in that those games are in Cardiff, Worcester or Southampton and Nottingham.

Agree about the competition being devalued by the absence of England players.

County cricket in general is being devalued by inconsistency in availability of player. And, as we know, it's going to get worse.
