Right chaps, being as it's a slow Friday and I've volunteered to take on tea duty tomorrow I thought I'd start a light-hearted thread on the only actually important thing in cricket - the teas.
As the title suggest, your top 3 items found on a cricket tea... (yes, I'm looking for inspiration!)
-
Cant go wrong with a bit of home made cake (as long as its not dry) but I think as long as there is variety everyone is happy.
What about doing a curry? something mild for you, something explosively hot for the away team :)
Worst thing ive ever had as part of a tea is white bread with a dollop of hundreds&thousands on top. Pathetic effort for a pudding!
-
Cake
Cake
And
Err cake
-
Spanish onions chopped and soaked in vinegar served in a dish
Fresh lettuce leaves
Fresh tomatoes
-
chicken tikka sandwich
Pork pie / sausage roll
Cake / flapjack depending on the selection
-
sandwiches that arent just the typical cheese/ham/tuna/egg
a good pasta salad (not just tune) anything with chorizo or bacon for me!
something hot whether its pizza, chips etc just to mix it up a bit
-
its good topic and right on time as I am doing teas tomorrow.
My idea is (not top 3 though) cheese and pickle sandwich, Ham and lettuce
Samosa, cant bother to make cake so gonna buy some cakes.
Any ideas welcomed
-
Cheese sandwiches should be compulsory! Hate a cricket tea when someone's got a bit carried away and gone all Heston Blumenthal on the sandwiches, keep it simple. Pizza is always a winner, but only if hot!
-
Fresh sandwich with a crunchy French stick
Sausage rolls served warm
Cherry bake wells
-
I don't have tea
-
battenberg cake
-
Fruit cake
Egg sandwiches
Wraps
Best ever we had an away game early season last year. Really cold. Club laid on hot dogs, with onions, three different types of sausage, relish, sauces the works. Very welcome given the weather!
-
Scones with jam & cream
Cheese & onion sandwiches - bread must be fresh, stale bread is a killer!
Crisps - need a bit of crunch, a disturbing 2018 trend in our teas is neglecting this area
-
Jaffa cakes a must
Fresh bread and cheese
Homemade coleslaw too
-
Coronation chicken sandwiches.
Something warm - pizza, sausage rolls, chicken nuggets or chips always seem to go down well.
Decent chocolate cake (not a £1 swiss roll cut into paper thin slices!)
As a bonus item, fresh fruit is always a winner
I don't have tea
Why do you even play? :o
-
Knew you'd all pull out the goods ha, just goes to prove that it's all about the teas! :D
-
A good pasta (chicken and bacon or tuna and spring onion)
Freshly baked quiche (all flavours)
Fruit assortments
-
I always think it's good to include something hot..... nuggets, samosa's (can be a good vege option) or pizza
sarnie's - can't beat the traditional options, a good egg mayo, cheese & pickle, ham etc....
cake - brownie's are always a favourite of mine, i do love good home made cake but they tend to be huge and take up a lot of room on the plate.
random options - i once had a tea that had a couple of tubs of ice cream out on the table, that was great idea i thought, provide a bowl and spoons and just have a few scoops, perfect on a hot day!
-
Pizza . Scones /cream / jam. Brownies. Some kind of chicken curry. Lamingtons. Donuts. Good coffee and tea.
Hot chips. Quiche.
Maybe dont take this advice......your game may not ever recommence after tea. ;)
-
1. Yorkshire puddings with a slice of beer topped with a little mustard
2. Yorkshire puddings is h a slice of beef topped with a little horseradish
3. Home made sausage rolls
-
Aromatic crispy duck with pancakes, chopped cucumber, spring onions and plum sauce.
Roast potatoes.
Victoria sponge cake.
-
The most important has to be proper Yorkshire tea, strong, splash of milk.
Scone with jam and cream, maybe a strawberry on top too.
Egg sandwich or pasta.
-
1) Ham sandwiches
2) Chicken nuggets/dippers
3) Corned beef pasty
Healthy I know...
-
I dont really like tea. Although if there are pakoras. Im like the cookie monster
-
Scones with jam and cream
Cheesy chips (hot)
Coffee

Best topic for a first post ever ! You my man have your priorities right :D
-
Scones (Jam + Cream)
Homemade Cake
A good (strong) brew
-
1. Pot of decent tea
2. Melon slices
3. Hamburgers (only given to the oppo - they normally can't resist them and can't move afterwards).
-
I don't have tea
Get out!
-
Cricket is played competitively in summer though!
-
Great thread, we can pretend it's still the season.
I'm going out on a limb here to say the thing most of us miss the most about teas these days is the slices of bread and jam you normally have at the end. With a cup of strong tea it's just perfect.
I don't know why this vanished from the norm and I think it's tragic :)
-
Not sure how I missed this thread! Think I am pretty spoilt for teas where I play
1. Bacon and Egg pie, still warm. Either with ketchup or fresh tomatoes
2. Individual Eton Mess. Captain produced these this season for a couple of games, absolute winner. Rewarded him in the shower after the game
3. Cornish cream tea. Is there anything better? Shout out to the ladies at Redruth CC, when we played there in June the scones were unbelievable. Think I had 3 or 4. Followed with being bowled by a loopy off spinner for 0. Dont regret it
-
It's all about the savouries and cake for me:
1. Hot Sausages/Pasties
2. Chips
3. Fruit Cake
-

You did....what? :(
-
1. A Brew
2. Some form of homemade cake (Lemon Drizzle/Victoria Sponge)
3. Tuna Sandwich
-
I think the weather needs to be factored in here.
if it is stinking hot then melon, oranges etc are a winner.
If it is freezing then roll out the pizza, sausages and chips/roast potatoes please!
-
Roast potatoes???? Heard it all now!
Crisps for me,,,,pestered the committee at the agm to get them sorted for our teas
Can’t eat a buttie without em
-
Think our teas at Eaton Socon are up there with the best in the country! But it's a bit wasted on me as i really don't like to eat during a game :(
Though, my 3 favourites would be: Tomato Pasta, Crisps & Fruit!
-
Corned beef & potato pie
Samosas
Scones with jam & cream
-

Agreed, weather is a huge factor. Will always remember getting lasagna and chips on the hottest day of the year! Nightmare
-
Once had chicken fajitas for teas last game of the season
sausage, pie, chips and beans pre season game
ham cheese egg butties crisps cocktail sausages homemade cake some pasta is usually my plate
-
Call me controversial but... I don't care for cricket teas, unless it's a classic village Sunday friendly.
-
Seniorplayer - yes indeed, I'm with you with the onions. My better half does our 1st XI teas and I think I might be the only person that has the onions... Our most popular item is hot jerk chicken (ironic as I don't eat chicken...). Best teas in the league (in my humble opinion...).
My top three are:- strawberry & cream scones; homemade potato salad; cheese 'n' onion sausage rolls.
I'm peckish now.

I'm with you! I'd rather just have a drink and a bit of pasta at Tea and have some proper food afterwards!
-
Don’t know if it has been said before but
1. Malt loaf
2. Malt loaf
3. Malt loaf
Anything else goes but without it, it’s just not Cricket teas!
