My mate bust my fantastic GN F18 in the nets a few weeks ago. I had it repaired by Solitaire, but sadly it went again last night about 1/2 an inch from the previous split.

So I'm going to need a new match bat. Advice please on what to get next. I loved my GN F18 with no concaving and a higher middle. I cut and pull a lot as quite short, but also quite strong driving through the covers. Looking for around 2.8ish, minimal to no concaving with high is middle. Would be happy with another GN, but also fancy the look of B3, H4L and Blank Bats.

Get a copy made of the Gn. Happy to discuss options of grade etc with you if it’s something that appeals
-
Get a ‘Tonto’ shape from B3 - basically a GN F18
-
Think the f18 are still available From the old gn stock , or we have two unbelievably good h4l fifty50 pro bats that are under 2-9 if you fancy one of those

How about a 2lb8 Gray Nicolls F18?

Very pragmatic!
It seems true that most bats break: 1. In the nets. 2. When being used by a 'mate'.
My suggestion would be to either go to a sports shop and pick up some bats, or take John Red Ink up on his offer. Those on here who have had bats off him have all seemed very happy. He's a nice fella and we should support small businesses like his.
I generally hate the idea that the brand is the first consideration when buying a bat. Unless you already have a developed loyalty to a brand, of course.

There is, of course, little guarantee that two 2.8 GN F18s will feel even similar in your hands.

I will definitely consider Red Inks offer when making my final decision on a new stick. My first consideration has not been brand first, but picked out 4 possibles. This is based on:
GN - same brand replacement
B3 - wide range of shapes and good reviews
Blank Bats - TK made, loved my old Newberys
H4L - Already have an NV, so know their quality
Haven't hand picked one myself as bought online for last few, so quite fancy that option. Also always nice to try new brands, in that never ending search for that special one!
-
How can you ever know how a bat will pick up from choosing a shape online?
-
Yes you can't it's just luck and picking a shape that suits you.
-
If you can get to B3's shop, I would fully recommend it. More shapes than you could ever imagine. I've just ordered a TKC shape. Picks up fantasically.

Well the need for a new bat increased after breaking a second bat in just over a week! :( My old, but still great, Salix Pod finally falling apart with a split toe. I was seriously tempted by Tai's offering of a B-oz, but in the end I wanted to physically pick up some bats and choose one that felt right. So I went with B3 and travelled up to pick one out. Found a lovely shape, similar to the DB1 but with almost no concaving. Thanks for the advise and I'll post some pictures later.

Tell us more about this B-Oz offering @beaver5 .....

How come Blank bats get such high praise throughout the forum when they are made by the same batmaker as so many other brands that dont get the same praise? Just curious.

Im gona shoot an arrow in the dark but perhaps because they are much cheaper for the same quality as some of the other brands by the same batmaker

Oh really? I'm aware they are a little cheaper but i thought they were around the same price as phantom who have had a couple of bashings on here before.
-
Naa from what i have seen BB is much cheaper than phantom
-
Just because its my match bat and i have scored 7 x 6's in 2 innings...
